Soon there will be no way to buy the first four Metal Gear Solid games on current consoles

Metal Gear Solid is arguably one of the most iconic video game series in existence. Created by Konami and directed by Hideo Kojima, the series was released on the original PlayStation, and the series is long-lived even without Kojima at the helm. However, when Metal Gear Solid 4 leaves PS Now on May 17, it will not be possible to purchase Metal Gear Solid 1-4 on the current generation of consoles.

As found on ResetEra, you won't be able to buy and play four of these historic games unless you own an older console or PC. The series has sold 58 million, but current console owners can't be a part of those numbers.

Unfortunately, late last year, Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 were removed from the digital storefront due to licensing issues with historical footage used in the game. Konami did say it would try to update the license, but that hasn't happened yet. Now 4 are about to leave PS now, which means they are all gone.

As PlayStation begins implementing its all-new PS Plus tier later this month, we can expect to see the Gear Solid series included in the Preimum tier. This layer promises hundreds of games from PS1, PS2, PS, and PSP.

On resetEra threads, people who previously purchased these games numerically said they could still play them — people just couldn't buy them anymore.

In other recent Metal Gear Solid news, a speed runner beat the first race in just 36 minutes and 23 seconds in extreme mode, beating the old world record in nearly 30 seconds. Since then, although the record has been canceled again. This time, dlimes13 was shortened by three seconds.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Speedrunner found a way to jump over the iconic ladder and climb, saving a full two minutes. Unless you are running fast, you should definitely not skip this section. The thematic weight it has is second to none.
