PlayStation players are currently unable to overlay membership subscription periods with redemption cards

According to reports, in the past few days, many PlayStation players have found themselves unable to redeem subscription service recharge cards, so they cannot stack the PlayStation Plus service period, and they cannot "save wool" by subscribing to PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now at the same time.

Because Sony is about to upgrade the PS Plus, players who subscribe to PS Now will be migrated to the new "PS Plus Premium" service. If the player has previously subscribed to the original PS Plus, the validity period of the new version of the service is calculated as the longest one. Therefore, some players have found that subscribing to PS Plus for as long as possible, plus a month of PS Now, will be the best value plan.

Now that Sony has discovered the problem, Sony customer service responded to a ResetEra user as follows:

Due to the upcoming changes to the PS Plus subscription service, it is not currently possible to overlay the PS Plus subscription period as we have cancelled this feature.

We understand how important this is to you, and once a new PS Plus membership is available, we have options for further processing.

I understand this to be frustrating. I can only advise you to wait until your current subscription service ends before using your code. Extensions/overlays are no longer available.

Earlier, some players found that buying years of PS Now services and waiting for the official migration to "PS Plus Premium" can save a lot of money, because the PS Now annual subscription costs $59.99 per year, while the PS Plus Premium annual fee is $119 per year. But in early April, the PS Now annual subscription option was removed from Sony's shelves.
