When Mercedes-Benz EQS was released, the internet was overwhelmingly in the news, and the essence of these articles was summed up in one word, basically three words: "ceiling".

Mercedes-Benz is keen to shape the ceiling, the S-class has been on fire for 70 years, and it is still the ceiling of the flagship sedan field, even if the BMW 7 Series personality is changeable, it seems to be of no help.

S-class success is simple: you do one thing, like a big tree, just need to root it infinitely deep, you can resist the unpredictable wind and clouds of the outside world.

S-class, planting "luxury" to a depth that no one can match.

But the EQS becoming the ceiling of electric vehicles contains most people's speculations: "S-class can do it, EQS can do it, right?" "It's an ability to keep the brand going, and if you've done something before, I have reason to continue to believe in you."

The reason for combing it down is simple: in addition to the price there, most of it is because of mercedes-benz brand and technology endorsement.

If there is a person who happens to have more than 1 million and wants to buy a high-end electric car, judging from the products available on the market, he has almost no more choices.

Uniqueness has also become a natural competitiveness of EQS.

It's just that this competitiveness can't be done once and for all, because there will always be brands entering this market. S-class is expensive because it has a big heart, quality control and materials with higher indicators, and some technology weapons that really need to be smashed out with cost, which are all moats.

But after the era entered electrification, many technical barriers were lowered and dispersed, users were educated to start focusing on intelligence and automation, and the cost framework established in the previous era of fuel vehicles could not be perfectly applied to electric vehicles: this gave new forces the opportunity to rise rapidly.

So looking at the EQS and S-Class, they have never been the same car, and in the era of electrification, they cannot be compared in the same dimension because of the close price.

EQS needs to have a whole new set of guidelines to look at.

But to be honest, it was very sudden to get the EQS, and we planned to do our homework first, and then break down the car according to the process.

However, the public relations team is very powerful, as soon as the demand for borrowing a car comes out, it will be arranged on the day of selection, but it makes me a little caught off guard.

Because before our evaluation standards for electric vehicles, basically set up between 100,000 and -700,000, will look at the endurance, will look at the three electricity, will look at the workmanship, will look at the configuration, will finally put the car in a position where it should be.

But these standards are clearly not very applicable on EQS. The idea of Mercedes-Benz is: in the cost range, to be the top in the industry, this needs to pay a price.

To take a simple example: the EQS has a drag coefficient of 0.2cd, breaking the record for production cars. Many people say that it is better to make the traffic streamline fully, that is, the designer draws a picture.

The real situation is that the design and drawing of the plan requires engineers to match the corresponding ergonomics, to ensure your riding space, to ensure the realizability of the material, to repeatedly test the equipment, and then to open the mold production. The cost during the period is a huge expense, and it is necessary for small factories to consider implementability.

But for Mercedes-Benz, shaping the ceiling is the ideological policy, EQS, not only the right way of thinking, but also the degree of determination.

Of course, from a personal subjective point of view, I have always believed that EQS does not have too direct competitors at this stage.

Of course, the price of Model S is expensive, but the 1 million of Model S and the 1 million of EQS will have obvious psychological differences when you touch the real car, one is that you don't know where the money is spent, and the other is the cost that is visible to the naked eye.

Fortunately, there is no too clear judging framework, perhaps you can amplify some subjective feelings, and then share it with you.

1. EQS's scientific and technological armament is very targeted.

Variable steering ratio + rear wheel active steering, so that the car in the city to move around is very convenient, and the rear wheel steering degree is large (maximum 10 degrees), in the industry have a higher ranking.

You know, a Corolla's turning diameter is 10.8 meters, while the wheelbase reaches 3210mm, the length of the car is 5227mm, and the turning diameter is only 10.9 meters, and the subjective experience is very good.

2, the sitting posture is not like a car, nor is it like an SUV.

The main driver is still relatively high when adjusted to the lowest position, coupled with the streamlined body design itself, the front part of the car does not appear well in the field of vision, so it brings a large blind spot in the front part, which is not easy for novices to control the distance.

Fortunately, with the assistance of panoramic camera and radar, the pressure of driving is alleviated. Radar settings are more sensitive and have longer alarm times to help reduce the rate of scratching accidents.

3. The ambience of the interior is really great.

The triple OLED large screen is made of irregular curved glass, forming a seamless integrated design, plus the atmosphere light, which ensures the high-end feeling that Mercedes-Benz should have.

The on-screen panel, from Corning Gorilla, guarantees the clarity and detail of the display, and has a built-in 8-core processor and 24G running memory, which is the right idea.

UI logic and first- and second-level menu operation logic all meet the high-level sense and functional convenience. It also has a voice interaction system, and the response speed is acceptable. However, the fly in the ointment is that compared with the new forces or some Chinese brands, EQS has not reached the first-line level in terms of the smoothness and accuracy of interaction.

4. Dynamic driving quality is superior.

The EQS weighs close to 2.6 tons as Mercedes-Benz stuffed it with 111.8kWh of batteries.

At present, the form of most electric vehicles is not good, that is, because the vehicle is too heavy, the suspension adjustment will be limited. The suspension damping must be adjusted harder or the spring K value must be larger to ensure that the body can be "dragged" when it bounces.

But when adjusted in this way, it is easy to upset the balance between comfort and handling of the vehicle. I've tried too many electric cars before, either because it's easy to spit out passengers or because it's easy to drive drivers without confidence.

Therefore, manufacturers who can adjust the chassis of electric vehicles can be regarded as profound.

The EQS is rare, and the addition of air suspension and the careful tuning of the engineers give the chassis a texture close to that of a fuel car.

Usually we say "adjust the electric vehicle to a fuel vehicle", which is a high praise, in addition to the chassis, for the style of power output, energy recovery and calibration of the braking system have a great relationship.

Excessive will be motion sickness, lack of will drag, so build a good electric car, is not an easy task.

5, do not pay too much attention to battery life.

When I got the car, the full meter display of the EQS was only 580Km, which was quite different from the 800Km marked. However, in the process of use, the difference between the actual mileage and the dropped meter is not large.

Regarding the matter of battery life, we have different guidelines for different levels of products and different demand scenarios, such as you are just fixed in the city commuting, a fixed distance every day, so that a car with a battery life label of 200Km is enough.

If you often run long distances, you need product support of not less than 500Km endurance. If it is your first car or the second car, the demand for battery life will have different standards.

Appropriate, best.

Although the EQS is not the first electric vehicle of Mercedes-Benz, it is definitely a product that is stepping on a key node, and its significance sometimes goes beyond the simple product force, through which you can hear Mercedes-Benz's high-pitched and firm determination to electrify.

For EQS, if inheritance is taken for granted, then subversion is the icing on the cake. 【iDailycar】
