NHTSA launched an investigation into Honda, 1.7 million vehicles with injury defects?

Since many car owners have received complaints that their AEB automatic brake system was activated without warning during normal driving, and this situation has a significant impact on driving safety, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) has launched an investigation into the US-regulated Honda model this week (February 21). The main survey series include the Accord mid-size sedan and the CR-V SUV, with more than 1.7 million vehicles estimated to be affected.

NHTSA, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has launched an investigation into U.S.-regulated Honda models since this week. The main survey series include the Accord midsize sedan and the CR-V.

CMBS started without warning, with 278 complaints and 6 minor injuries

According to the information released by NHTSA, the NHTSA's Vehicle Defect Investigation Office ODI (The Office of Defects Investigation) has received 278 complaints about the AEB early warning braking system (Honda is called the CMBS collision mitigation braking system), which is activated for no reason in normal, unobstructed driving conditions, causing severe braking and even rear collisions that affect Daoan.

Of the 278 complaints, 107 were from accords for the 2018 and 2019 models and 171 were from the CR-V for the 2017 to 2019 models. Fortunately, there have been no serious casualties due to this potential flaw, but NHTSA data shows that there were 6 complaints that caused minor injuries to people in the car.

The CMBS radar + lens configuration has been well received by all parties, and the actual reasons have yet to be investigated

The 10th generation Accord and 5th generation CR-V series that are currently rumored to be defective are equipped with Honda Sensing active safety systems. Generally speaking, the AEB early warning brake system used by various depots is nothing more than a single lens, dual lens, lens with radar, and single radar when identifying obstacles. As for Honda Sensing's CMBS collision mitigation brake system, which uses a lens with a radar combination, it can be regarded as quite advanced in hardware configuration, and it has also received very high evaluation from units such as the American Highway Safety Insurance Association IIHS and the Japanese independent safety evaluation agency JNCAP; therefore, the cause of this potential flaw is still to be known by NHTSA's follow-up investigation.

In mid-January 2019, JNCAP Japan announced the results of the 5th generation Honda CR-V to perform active safety system testing, and cr-V received an ASV+++ rating with a high score of 119 out of 126.

At present, ODI has embarked on a preliminary evaluation process at this stage to assess the scale and severity of the impact of this potential defect, so it is not excluded that there will be a car series other than accord and CR-V that will be affected. At present, it is estimated that if the defect case is officially filed, measures such as follow-up recall correction will affect as many as 1,732,000 vehicles; in this regard, Honda has said that it will fully cooperate with the investigation.

For the domestic market, it is still uncertain whether the BEAUTY CR-V made in the United States is equipped with the same CMBS module as the domestic CR-V sold in China, so it is uncertain whether the domestic CR-V will be affected.
