Abstract: The family economic conditions are good, want to let the child go to an international high school, study abroad in the future, is this necessary? Is it worth spending so much money?
Some time ago, a fan parent in a first-tier city talked to me about a problem, he said:
"The child is now in junior high school, the family's economic conditions are OK, now I want to consider a thing in advance, that is, when the child goes to high school in the future, is it necessary to read some international high schools for studying abroad, and then go to some famous universities abroad?" Or is it better to take the 211 and 985 schools in China in peace and security? Which situation will be easier to employ in the country in the future?
Because I saw that there were some friends around, I had sent my children to international high schools, and when many of my peers were still preparing for the exam in China, their children had applied to famous schools abroad. There are even a very few families who sell their houses to provide for their children to study abroad. ”
Although the question raised by this parent does not represent most families, it is also a more representative common problem among families with better economic conditions in first- and second-tier cities. Today, I would like to share my views and suggestions on this topic for the reference of parents who are also confused.
I still want to bring the conclusion to the front, my point is: in today's Chinese society, assuming that the family economic strength is enough, the vast majority of children in the vast majority of families do not actually have the need to study abroad. Only a very small number of children are suitable for going abroad, and the probability is about one in ten million.
Why I came to this conclusion, and listen to me.
First, if the child himself wants to learn, in fact, he will learn the same everywhere, and it has nothing to do with which school he goes to.
Regarding this principle, I just talked about it the other day, studying, and going to school, listening to lectures, reading books, and writing homework does not have much to do with it. I won't repeat it here.
As soon as many people hear this conclusion, they may immediately want to refute it, saying: "There are many high-tech techniques and advanced theories, you don't rely on famous schools, you don't rely on famous teachers, you can understand it yourself?" ”
For this kind of questioning, I would like to say that no matter where you go to a famous school, which stage of the famous school, domestic or foreign, high school or university, it is because I am excellent first, and then I go to a famous school, not because I go to a famous school to start to become excellent.
It is true that a famous school can make an already excellent person more excellent; but it is difficult for a famous school to make a person who is not originally excellent into a good person.

Second, no matter which parent, the ultimate expectations of their children are actually exactly the same - they hope that their children can live better and happier in society in the future.
This idea, parents must be clear in advance. This is also the theory that I have mentioned many times in my previous works, that the ultimate goal of education is to make a person live a better and happier life in society.
Living happily in society is mainly related to two skills, that is, vocational skills and life skills. Most of the vocational skills are slowly learned and cultivated after work, while life skills are exercised by solving various life problems in life.
Obviously, in which school, the relationship with the cultivation of vocational skills and life skills is very small, in the short term it seems to have a big impact, but if you extend the time to a person's life, in fact, it is basically negligible.
I have said many times in my previous works that most of the knowledge and skills learned in a lifetime come from life and work, not from school.
Third, from the national level, China is already the best developed among the socialist countries in the world.
Note that I would like to emphasize "socialism" here, because the next stage of capitalism must be socialism, and I will not go into detail about this theory for the time being, everyone has studied it in political science classes, and it can be found on the Internet that has not been studied.
My main point here is to emphasize that China's national happiness index is actually the highest in the world.
Although in terms of some technologies and certain industries, the mainland still lags behind the developed capitalist countries such as the United States, Germany, and Japan, from the perspective of the whole industry, China is already a country with a relatively balanced industry development and the highest comprehensive level of the whole industry in the world.
The whole industry mentioned here, of course, does not only refer to the high-tech industry, but also includes many industries that are closely related to the lives of ordinary people, such as high-speed rail, mobile payment, infrastructure projects, online shopping and so on.
Therefore, most industries are actually the best in China. A very small number of high-tech technologies will one day surpass those capitalist countries, and sooner or later.
Fourth, those high-tech products in foreign countries, the core technology is bullish, and the main sales volume depends on China.
Don't think that Germany and the United States have mastered some core technologies, which are very cattle and great, and the core technologies are developed and made into products, and they still have to find ways to sell them, otherwise they will lose a lot, because the research and development costs of core technologies are very high.
In the world, China can be said to be the parents of those core technical teams, after all, the sales of foreign high-tech products in the Chinese market are the largest.
The core technology of those capitalist countries, because of the raising of a large number of senior R & D personnel, the cost is quite high, the ultimate purpose is to make money, they rely on the sales of their own countries, simply can not afford to support those core R & D teams.
I have classmates or friends in the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Canada, some of whom have been studying there for many years, or who have settled in foreign countries for a long time. The message they gave me back was that the advanced capitalist countries were only a few elites who lived well, and ordinary people were definitely not as happy as in China.
Because in those capitalist countries, many social resources are monopolized by the elite class above, and the ordinary people below have few opportunities to counterattack, even if the children of ordinary people are gifted and have the potential to become scientists. China is actually relatively fair, at least it has not cut off all the upward passages of ordinary people.
If the country is likened to a person, capitalist countries such as the United States, Germany, and Japan are equivalent to specialists with particularly excellent professional skills in one or two aspects, while China belongs to the generalists who have excellent skills in many aspects.
The characteristics of professionals are fast first and then slow, and the early stage is relatively fast, but there is no staying power; the characteristics of generalists are first slow and then fast, and they are full of stamina. The metaphor may not be very accurate, but the truth is not far from ten.
Fifth, don't think that if you go to a famous foreign school, you can learn much cutting-edge knowledge or technology.
This idea may have barely held up in the last century, but now it will definitely disappoint you.
First, the most cutting-edge technical knowledge of a country must exist in the national research institute or in the research and development team maintained by a multinational large enterprise.
The energy of these researchers with cutting-edge technical knowledge is also limited, and their main energy is still in the research and development of technology, rather than going to the university to teach and lecture, even if they go, it is an occasional thing, and it is impossible to teach in the university often. Moreover, the vast majority of researchers are actually not good at teaching or lecturing.
Second, in order to learn high-end technology, you must work in the R& D team of the large enterprises mentioned above.
Don't think that after a few years of studying in a famous foreign university, you will have the opportunity to work in those R & D teams, this probability is very small. The main reason is that a lot of high-tech technology involves trade secrets, at least very specific data and details will not be easily known to foreigners.
Unless you have joined a foreign nationality and have to be very good in yourself, you have mastered a new theoretical system, opened up a new field of technology, and even researched new scientific research results. This difficulty is definitely not a general difficulty.
Sixth, most people who have studied abroad, the diploma they have obtained, in this era, has not played any role in gilding.
This is a long story to be expanded. In a word, most people who come back from studying abroad can only prove some test-taking ability and understand some more advanced theories, but this does not guarantee that they will have a strong ability to innovate in their future work.
Very few well-known foreign universities with some gold content also have to at least finish their doctorates and work in foreign postdoctoral workstations to be eligible to say that they have certain strengths, such as Yan Ning, Rao Yi, Shi Yigong and others in China. But there are too few such people, basically one in ten million probability.
Moreover, the truth of the facts is that these people will actually become experts in any study, because they are excellent and go to well-known universities abroad, not to become excellent in well-known universities abroad.
Therefore, the vast majority of people even if they have studied abroad, back is not much advantage, the fundamental reason is not that they did not study well abroad, but because of the current society, the average productivity level of various industries has been very high, and then want to improve, if there is a breakthrough, the comprehensive ability requirements of a person will be very high, this is not a random foreign university for a few years can have the quality.
Seventh, having said so much before, in fact, it does not completely negate the meaning of studying abroad.
If your child has significant potential to become a scientist, it is still feasible to go abroad to study at a prestigious university and at least finish a doctorate. But the probability of such a child is at most one in ten million.
In fact, for the children of the vast majority of families, going abroad is actually of little significance to the future job search. However, under the premise of not losing money at home, you can think of studying abroad as one more life experience, and you can have more memories when you are old.
