Analyst Agency Statistics: PS5 Sells 60% More than Xbox in 2021

According to data analytics firm Ampere Analysis, 12.5 million PS5 units were sold in 2021, 60% higher than the Xbox Series X|S's 7.7 million units. Meanwhile, the Switch sold 24.3 million units for the full year.

For the entire year of 2021, the total global sales of game consoles will be 48 million units, which includes both next-generation and current-generation consoles. Console hardware sales increased by 2% in 2021 compared to 2020. If the supply chain had not been affected, the growth could have been higher.

Ampere Analysis also released data on the cumulative installed capacity of the three consoles at the end of 2021.

Analyst Piers Harding-Rolls mentioned that the cumulative total sales of switches have reached 100 million units, and Nintendo's strategic center has shifted to "let one family own multiple Switches."

By the end of 2021, the cumulative sales of sony PS5s reached 17 million units, and the sales momentum is strong. But on the other hand, the supply of PS5 is being resisted. Piers also mentioned that the supply shortage may be alleviated later in 2022, but it may not end until 2023.
