Biden's chief scientific adviser resigned, threatening several key U.S. science projects

According to the news of Science Network on February 9, Biden's chief scientific adviser Eric Lander resigned. Rand is director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and one of the leaders of the Human Genome Project, and is in charge of Biden's Cancer Moonshot. There are White House advisers and outside research experts who fear that Rand's resignation will delay or weaken several key U.S. government science programs: appointing a new head of biomedical research; restarting the "cancer-fighting moonshot program"; restructuring the federal response to the pandemic; and creating a new agency for biomedical breakthroughs. Others argue that scientific work will continue unabated whether Rand leaves the government or not. Multiple scientific advisers said the Cancer Moonshot would be largely separated from Rand.
