The sense of proportion of adults is a tacit understanding of the point to the end:
I said I have something, don't ask me anything;
I said I was eating with people, you don't ask me who I was with;
I said I was with a friend, don't you ask me if I'm a man or a woman.
If I could say it, I might have said it earlier.
It's not that I can't say, I probably don't want to say,
It's not that I don't want to say it, I probably just don't want to tell you.
Adult courtesy is not hypocrisy, but kindness.
It is a gentle way to tell each other what kind of distance we need to keep.
