World Heritage | In Australia, several prisons have been inscribed on the World Heritage List as cultural heritage. The prison site is not a single location, but there are 11 sites in New South Wales, Tasmania, Western Australia and many other places.

Each prison had its own purpose, either punitive imprisonment or allowing prisoners to assist in the construction of colonies through re-education through labour. The "Australian Prison Site" is the best example of the expulsion of criminals on a large scale and the colonial expansion of European powers through exile and forced labor.

When I first went to visit, I wasn't very interested, and I was a little scared. However, I was struck by one of the sites, which was named Port Arthur. Because it is now surrounded by mountains and blue bays, it is picturesque. It seems that the hostility accumulated in Port Arthur over the past hundred years seems to have turned into a piece of peace.

The narrator tells us that not every one of the criminals sent into Port Arthur is guilty of a heinous crime. Some criminals simply stole a loaf of bread and did not commit any crimes afterwards, but they still could not return to their homeland and died in Port Arthur.

Here, I felt the despair of the ruins of Port Arthur Prison. Although the scenery was picturesque, in the minds of the criminals at that time, they did not have the heart to enjoy the scenery.
