Ford's eight plants in North America have reduced production due to "lack of cores", and many hot-selling models have been affected

Ford again cut production due to "lack of core".

According to Reuters, Ford motor said on February 4 local time that due to chip supply restrictions, it plans to suspend or cut car production at a total of 8 plants in the United States, Mexico and Canada from February 7.

According to the relevant person in charge of Ford Motor, the three plants in Michigan, Chicago and Kuotitlan, Mexico will temporarily stop production, the F-150 leather car production line at the Kansas plant in the United States will be suspended, and the Transit model production line will be produced in a single shift. In addition, ford's Dearborn plant, Kentucky plant, and Louisville plant will start single-shift production or reduce shifts, and The Oakville plant in Canada will eliminate overtime.

This temporary production cut will affect Ford's current main sales products in North America, such as Bronoco, Explorer, F-150, Ranger pickup, Mustang Mach-E, Lincoln Aviator and so on.

Before this temporary production cut, Ford had said that the chip shortage would lead to a decline in production in the first quarter of this year, but it is expected that production will pick up in the second half of the year.

Judging from the recently released earnings report, Ford is still optimistic about the outlook for 2022. According to the earnings report, Ford expects wholesale vehicle volume to grow by about 10-15% in 2022.

Last year, Ford closed its factories many times due to repeated epidemics and lack of cores.

Public reports show that due to the impact of the epidemic in Malaysia, from August 23, 2021, Ford arranged a five-day shutdown of the Cologne plant in Germany; in the second quarter of 2021, the overall production was reduced for a long time due to chip shortages. At that time, the most affected models were carnival, Fox and other models.

Affected by this, Ford's performance in the world's three most important markets in 2021 is mixed, and the data shows that its sales in the United States, Europe and China are 1,905,955 units, 878,648 units and 624,000 units, respectively, with year-on-year growth rates of -6.8%, -9.9% and 3.7%.

This year, the stability of the global integrated circuit supply chain is still facing severe challenges, according to a report released by Deloitte a few days ago, the chip shortage is expected to continue in 2022, the chip delivery period will be delayed by about 10 to 20 weeks, and the "lack of core" may be alleviated by the beginning of 2023.
