The first time I came to Shanghai was around the summer vacation of the fourth grade of primary school. The students came from all over the world, and with the support and help of several enthusiastic Shanghai classmates, I, a Jiangsu boy, organized the whole class to visit the city to visit Shanghai. Yangpu was once an industrial empire that shook the whole country. In the eighth year of Qing Guangxu (1882), with the approval of Li Hongzhang, the Shanghai Machine Paper Bureau of the Official Supervision and Commerce Office was put into operation; in 1883, the British merchants established China's first modern water plant, Yangshupu Water Plant, along the banks of the Huangpu River; in 1890, the Shanghai Machine Weaving Layout of the Official Commercial Office was put into operation, which was the earliest machine cotton textile factory in China. In the early 1920s, chen Duxiu's monthly magazine New Youth published an article entitled "Labor Conditions in Shanghai", which described, "In recent years, the factories in Shanghai have developed day by day. Among them, the yarn mill is the largest, and the livelihood of the poor is thus boosted. The area around Yangshupu can be called an industrial society. "By 1927, there were 57 foreign-funded factories in the district, and the national industry had developed to 301, of which the light textile industry had a considerable scale, and the number of spinning blooms accounted for 45.4% of the city. In 1949, there were nearly a thousand enterprises in Yangpu District, nearly 100,000 employees, and a total industrial output value of 720 million yuan, accounting for 5% of the country and about 20% of the city, and was famous in Shanghai and even the whole country.
One hundred years later, the former coal station no longer carries industrial functions, and an online new economic ecological park with an industrial scale of 300 billion yuan, the "Changyang Xiu Belt", was conceived in situ, representing a new growth pole of Shanghai's economy. Industrial workers who used to work in the roar of machines became makers in front of computer screens, and the oldest industrial landmark in Yangpu, Shanghai, became a representative of the new economy and became a century-old people's city.
Today, Yangpu's relationship with me has deepened. Thanks to the recognition of Shanghai Yangpu, I am honored to be selected as an outside director of Yangpu District STATE-OWNED ENTERPRISES. The century-old educational resources of Yangpu District have enabled the chip and innovative technology industries to have the soil for vigorous growth. Fudan Microelectronics in Yangpu District, Shanghai is the first mainland chip company listed in Hong Kong, from the establishment of the Semiconductor Physics Major by Professor Xie Xide in 1958 to the establishment of Fudan Microelectronics in 1998. When I was listed in Hong Kong in 2000, my foreign venture capital visited Fudan Micro to try to joint venture chip funds and try to introduce partners such as TSMC. In 2021, Fudan Micro Science and Technology Innovation Board will be listed on the COMPANY, and it will continue to advance in the field of MCUs and FPGAs. It is very interesting that Zhongxing Microelectronics in Beijing's Haidian District is the first mainland chip company listed in the United States, and we have also supported its growth, one south and one north, and the two major science and technology innovation zones in Beijing and Shanghai shine with double stars. We see that the chip and innovative technology enterprises founded by fudan, Jiaotong University, Tongji and other university alumni will continue to move towards the science and technology innovation board and the stage of Shanghai and the world in the fields of MEMS sensors, EDA, packaging and testing, IoT chips, power management and other fields.
Since the gradual emergence of the global double-strong competitive situation, chip investment has entered the boom of venture capital from an inconspicuous corner. Since 2017, we have successively written articles tracing the origin of venture capital VCs from the chip IC industry, and are willing to share this traceability often to encourage the development of the IC industry, and this view has also been strongly resonated by the IC industry. In the past 2021, China's chip imports exceeded $400 billion, and the global lack of cores, from PCs to mobile phones to cars, the shortage of chips even triggered national leaders to coordinate production capacity. On the one hand, the epidemic has triggered the continuous growth of demand for the global online and digital economy, and on the other hand, there is a serious mismatch in chip production capacity. We believe that due to the replacement and catch-up of China's chip industry, we will at least see a growth cycle of more than two decades in the future.
The Propaganda Department of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee is about to shoot a serial drama "Vertical and Horizontal Core Sea" (urban business war sentiment) with the theme of chip entrepreneurship. And friends inside and outside the chip industry to introduce, most people do not know much, the 2012 series "Homecoming" (also known as "returnees", "misplaced your hand"), should be China's first chip entrepreneurship theme of the TV series, telling the story of China's first generation of chip industry from Silicon Valley back to Beijing Zhongguancun entrepreneurship, after the ordeal to the United States to ring the bell listing story. Coincidentally, the prototype companies of these two TV series are the leaders of China's chip industry, and it is expected that the future will be more than 100 billion in market value.
