BYD's sales decline in January? It's not that it can't be sold, it's that it can't be built

Since the second half of last year, BYD's sales have soared, almost continuing to grow at a rate of 10,000 units per month. So much so that the monthly sales data has become a hot spot in the car circle. On February 3, BYD's January sales report was released on time, and a total of 95,180 passenger cars were sold. Although it is a good result, it is still a bit of a surprise. Because this is the first time that BYD's sales have declined month-on-month since the launch of the DM-i series models. Could it be that BYD has been weak in succession?

BYD's sales decline in January? It's not that it can't be sold, it's that it can't be built

If you just compare BYD's sales data for the last three months, it seems that it will really give people the illusion that 97,242 vehicles were sold in November, 97,990 in December, and 95,180 in January, as if there were signs of peaking. However, January itself is the off-season for car sales, and we must know that BYD is not unable to sell the car, but can not be built.

In the stage where production determines sales, it doesn't make much sense for us to compare sales data. In the past two months, BYD's sales growth has slowed down, or even declined month-on-month, which can only indicate that production has been affected. We all know what's going on for the past two months. In December, production and life stagnated during the epidemic in Xi'an, and the output of BYD's Xi'an plant was greatly affected. If there is no epidemic, it is a foregone conclusion that sales will exceed the 100,000 mark in December. In January, there were sporadic epidemics in various places, coupled with the end of the year, New Year's Day, spring festival together, employees go home for the New Year, and it is inevitable that production will be affected. In fact, it is not easy for BYD to achieve such results in January, and we should thank the front-line staff who are still sticking to their posts during the Spring Festival.

Similarly, due to the impact of the epidemic and the Spring Festival holiday, BYD's sales in February will not increase much, and even another decline is not impossible. However, these are not problems, and it is not the market that restricts BYD's sales, but its own production capacity, and the improvement of production capacity cannot be achieved overnight.

Affected by the epidemic and the Spring Festival holiday, the slight decline in sales is understandable, but why is this a good thing? In fact, behind the sales data, there are many deep things:

BYD's sales decline in January? It's not that it can't be sold, it's that it can't be built

First of all, the total sales volume (that is, production) decreased compared with the previous month, but the sales of new energy models increased, in December last year, 92,823 new energy models were sold, and 92,926 units were sold in January this year, that is, the reduction was mainly traditional fuel vehicles. There are two possibilities, the first is that under the premise of serious lack of production capacity, BYD has decisively adjusted the production capacity structure to ensure the delivery of new energy models as much as possible, while the order for fuel vehicles will be in the back row. Or, the delivery pressure of the fuel vehicle order itself is relatively small, and this part of the order is less, freeing up part of the production capacity for new energy models. Whatever the case is, it shows that BYD has basically got rid of its dependence on traditional fuel vehicles, and has successfully transformed into a pure new energy vehicle company, taking another step away from the suspension of pure fuel vehicles. DM-i shouted the slogan of "subverting fuel vehicles" at the beginning of its listing, before subverting others, we must first subvert ourselves!

Secondly, the strong momentum of flagship models such as Tang and Han shows that the BYD brand has taken another solid step on the road to upward mobility. In January, BYD Han sold a total of 12,780 vehicles, and Tang sold a total of 9,060 vehicles. Driven by the flagship model of Tang Han, BYD's passenger unit price has exceeded the mark of 150,000 yuan, surpassing Volkswagen! As a brand that focuses on cost performance, it is indeed impressive to be able to have such achievements in the unit price of customers. BYD is really not the BYD it used to be.

In addition, Tang and Han models are facing a face of restructuring, and before the new model is listed, it is really surprising that the old model can have such a market performance. You know, Han DM-i, the new Tang DM-p have appeared in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's declaration directory, one hand of wang fried has not yet come out, the other side has been great.

It is foreseeable that with the increase of the market's recognition of new energy models, the "BYD phenomenon" in 2021 will continue! Perhaps it is still difficult to exert strength in February, but from March onwards, BYD's monthly sales will not be less than 100,000, as evidenced by this post.
