The record for the most spent on the Olympics in history was set by Sochi, Russia, which spent $60 billion in 2014 to organize and host competitions. Most of the money was spent on infrastructure that was not directly related to the Olympics, including hotels, roads and airports.

In 2022, the IOC allocated 880 million yuan, equivalent to 22% of the overall cost. It is basically the same as the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Part of the IOC's funding comes from the sale of broadcast rights and income from global sponsors.
