"The art of calligraphy is the root of the traditional culture of the Chinese nation. Nanchong is a famous historical and cultural city with a profound heritage of calligraphy art. In the quiet aroma of tea, Liu Qingyang, dean of the School of Calligraphy of China West Normal University and chairman of the Nanchong Calligraphers Association, slowly told the story of the development of calligraphy in Nanchong.

In 1983, the Nanchong Calligraphers Association was established. In fact, at the beginning, there were not many professional calligraphers in Nanchong, but there were many calligraphy enthusiasts, and the enthusiasm was very high..." After several generations of calligraphers' efforts, Nanchong's thick calligraphy heritage and unique calligraphy creation atmosphere have influenced many calligraphers, using calligraphy to write history, write life, write urban development, and write stories around them. In 2019, the School of Calligraphy of China West Normal University was established, which is also the first calligraphy school in Sichuan Province and the first in the southwest region. More and more students are applying for full-time undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the School of Calligraphy. "These are all wonderful stories brought about by Nanchong's artistic development and calligraphy cultural self-confidence." Liu Qingyang said that the art of calligraphy is a microcosm of Nanchong's urban development and a witness to the beautiful life of Nanchong people. Between the calligrapher's pen and ink, the back of the paper is the self-confidence of urban culture, and it is also the glory of high-quality development of the city.

"I have loved calligraphy since I was a child, when I was 17 years old, I came to the south of Shandong to serve as a soldier, and in the army, it was just a writing post, and in addition to training in the army, a lot of time was spent practicing brush characters." Sun Haoyuan recalled that in those years in the army, he had been practicing in newspapers. In the late 1980s, when he saw calligraphy published in newspapers, he would carefully cut and preserve them with scissors. Today, these calligraphies are still preserved in his home. Now, he has gone from being a military calligraphy enthusiast to a calligrapher. "The cultural atmosphere and cultural status of Nanchong are fertile soil that nourishes our calligraphy creation."

Yang Tianhai, vice chairman of Nanchong Calligraphers Association, shared

Yang Tianhai, vice chairman of the Nanchong Calligraphers Association, is from the cangxi countryside of Guangyuan. When I was in elementary school, I began to learn calligraphy and studied Tang Kai for more than ten years. Sharing the experience of collecting the examination papers of his classmates and then using them to practice calligraphy without paper in middle school, which was an era of paper shortage, Yang Tianhai recalled the story of helping teachers in middle school to use iron pens to engrave steel plates (mimeographed test papers) for paper to practice calligraphy. It was not until high school that I was exposed to formal posters, and the materials and information for calligraphy learning in college were gradually enriched. After joining the work for many years, I have more time and energy to devote myself to professional learning. Now, he has also set up his own calligraphy studios in Chengdu and Nanchong, leading the student groups with primary and secondary school calligraphy teachers as the main body to experience the charm of calligraphy and inherit the traditional culture of calligraphy. "Artistic life, hands must also be persevered." Yang Tianhai said that everyone can tell a lot of content in the story of calligraphy, which also reflects the aesthetic value of contemporary public calligraphy. "More and more friends like calligraphy, learn calligraphy, use calligraphy to cultivate life, and write about the Belle Epoque and the beautiful life."
