Chen Baoli, born in Beijing in 1956, studied traditional brush painting with Mr. Zhang Jianxun, a painter at Beijing Palace Lamp Factory, when he was a teenager. From 1974 to 1980, he worked as a substitute art teacher at Shuangshu Primary School in Chaoyang District.
