In 2017, China's carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP fell by 46% compared with 2005, equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 4 billion tons. China has announced to the world that it aims to achieve carbon peaking by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060.

Satellite images and data released by NASA in February 2019 show that about a quarter of the world's new green area from 2000 to 2017 came from China, the largest contribution in the world. In the past 20 years, China's forest area and accumulation have continued to "double growth", becoming the country with the largest growth in forest resources in the world.

While solving its own environmental problems, China also actively participates in global environmental governance, promotes the conclusion of the Paris Climate Agreement through major country diplomacy and multilateral cooperation, and actively promotes the follow-up negotiation process of the Paris Climate Agreement. In addition, China has ratified and acceded to more than 30 multilateral conventions or protocols related to the ecological environment, guiding international cooperation on climate change and becoming an important participant, contributor and leader in the construction of global ecological civilization.
