Midea Group will enter the supply chain of half of the world's mainstream new energy vehicle customers this year

Tramway news: Recently, Midea Group said that its auto parts subsidiary will build a new production base and make plans for the next 10 years. Chen Jintao, general manager of Midea Welling Auto Parts Company, a subsidiary of Midea Group, recently revealed that Midea's new energy vehicle business has officially arrived at the inflection point of take-off, and this year will break into the supply chain of half of the world's mainstream new energy vehicle customers, and sales will usher in a big outbreak.

Midea Group currently has three product lines in the automotive field, thermal management, electric drive and intelligent driving, and their ultimate goal is to provide vehicle system-level solutions for new energy vehicles.

According to midea group, in the past four years, most of midea's auto parts energy has been used to "break through the first customer.". After more than half a year of testing tens of thousands of new energy vehicles, the reliability of its products has been fully verified.

Chen Jintao said that Midea Welling Auto Parts put forward the "333 strategy" internally, focusing on core components in the past 3 years, focusing on integrated components in the next 3 years, and then committed to becoming a system-level solution supplier for new energy vehicles in the next 3 years.

Fang Hongbo, chairman and president of Midea Group, also said that the industrial layout of new energy vehicles is a very important strategic direction for the future of Midea. Fang Hongbo once stressed that the core of the United States' business ideas in the next few years is to promote new growth with new strategies, continuously upgrade stocks and create increments through cognitive upgrading and thinking breakthroughs.

In 2018, Midea Group established Midea Welling Automotive Parts. A little earlier in 2016, Midea began to develop electric compressors for vehicles.

According to Midea Group's reply on the interactive platform, Midea's three major product lines of Welling Automotive Parts Drive System, Thermal Management System and Auxiliary/Autonomous Driving System were fully put into production in May 2021, and five auto parts products from three major product lines, including motor drive, thermal management system and auxiliary/automatic driving system, were officially released: drive motor, electronic water pump, electronic oil pump, electric compressor and EPS motor.

Chen Jintao previously said that 5 products of Midea's existing three major product lines have basically been tested on the car. "This year, there will be new lines in the three product lines of thermal management, electric drive and intelligent driving. After the new line is invested, the production capacity will be doubled again. ”

According to the plan, in the next 10 years, Midea's auto parts will also invest 1 billion US dollars in research and development of leading technologies.

According to public information, Midea's auto parts have landed in five major R&D centers around the world, among which the product technology direction of Anhui Hefei R&D Center and Guangdong Shunde R&D Center is motor, electronic control and compressor; the product technology direction of Shanghai and Sheffield R&D Center in The United Kingdom is motor and electronic control; and the R&D center in Osaka, Japan is compressor.

In addition to core components, Midea has also extended its "core-making" plan to the automotive field to support the future of new energy vehicles.

In December last year, at the annual sales of air-conditioning compressors of 100 million units and midea's industrial technology strategic vision conference, Liu Kai, general manager of Midea's Meiren Chip Company, revealed that the company has begun to make car chips.

"Midea's car chips are manufactured based on home appliance chips." Liu Kai said at the time that Midea's transition from making industrial chips to automobile chips is actually a "natural transition", "In the past, Midea has done a good job of industrial-grade chips, so when laying out car chips, it is natural." According to Liu Kai, the chips that Midea is making are mainly used for new energy vehicle pump control and other aspects.

According to the recent data revealed by midea group, after midea entered the chip field in 2018, mass production began in 2021, with a mass production of about 10 million pieces throughout the year, mainly for MCU control chips. This year, Midea is expected to mass-produce more than 80 million chips, covering power chips, power chips, IoT chips and other smart home appliance chips.

Midea Group once had the experience of directly entering the car-making field and finally returning home, and now it is much more conservative in the face of the new energy vehicle field, although Midea aims at the position of auto parts suppliers, but still emphasizes "not to build cars, only to be a supplier of core auto parts", this slogan sounds a bit too familiar.
