Earn 481.5 billion a year! Samsung surpassed Intel to become a global chip overlord and is ready to return to China to grab the market

After three years of dormancy, Samsung once again ascended to the top of the chip overlord throne.

According to the latest data from Gartner, a well-known Research Company in the United States, Samsung Electronics' semiconductor revenue soared by 31.6% to $75.9 billion (about 481.5 billion yuan) in 2021, surpassing Intel to become the world's highest-revenue chip manufacturer. The last time Samsung won this award was in 2018.

Intel, in second place, saw semiconductor revenue of $73.1 billion last year, up just 0.5 percent, the slowest-growing of sales among the top 25 chipmakers; in addition, the server processor space that Intel has been holding has also been wildly snatched up by its competitor AMD, where AMD's market share has soared from 14th to 10th.

However, Gartner's ranking does not include foundries such as TSMC, and may feel that no one can compare the global foundry giants.

It should be mentioned that in order to consolidate the position of the world's first, Samsung intends to return to China to grab the market, and recently set up a new team, named "China Market Innovation Group", directly under the management of the co-CEO. It is not difficult to understand that 60% of Samsung's chip revenue in 2018 came from the Chinese market, and it was easy to earn 300 billion yuan in China a year, it can be said that Samsung became the chip overlord in that year, and there is definitely a boost from the Chinese market.

Samsung's achievements are also a "projection" of the prosperity of the entire semiconductor industry, with global semiconductor industry sales soaring 25.1% to $583.5 billion in 2021, the first time the industry has broken through the $500 billion revenue mark. As demand for chips continues to surge, chipmakers such as Intel and Micron Believe the global semiconductor industry boom can continue into 2025.
