The central bank talks about the digital yuan pilot: last year, 260 million personal wallets were opened, and transactions exceeded 87.5 billion yuan

According to China Net, on January 18, Zou Lan, director of the Financial Market Department of Chinese Bank, said at a press conference of the State Council's new office that at present, the People's Bank of China has carried out digital yuan pilots in Shenzhen, Suzhou, Xiong'an, Chengdu, Shanghai, Hainan, Changsha, Xi'an, Qingdao, Dalian and other places and the scene of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, basically covering the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, central, western, northeast, northwest and other different regions. As of December 31, 2021, the digital yuan pilot scenario has exceeded 8,085,100, with a total of 261 million personal wallets opened and a transaction amount of 87.565 billion yuan, which effectively verifies the technical design and system stability, product ease of use and scenario applicability of the digital yuan business, and enhances the public's understanding of the design concept of the digital yuan.

In the next step, the People's Bank of China will continue to steadily promote the pilot research and development of the digital yuan in accordance with the national "14th Five-Year Plan", further deepen the pilot use of the digital yuan in retail transactions, living expenses, government services and other scenarios, and put the research and development pilot of the digital yuan to serve the real economy and the lives of the people, so that more enterprises and individuals can feel the value of the digital yuan, and fully stimulate the enthusiasm of all parties in the industry.
