"Mom!" "Mother Yang!" "Hey—good boy!" After breakfast on January 8, a woman and a group of children came to the second-floor corridor of a circular building. The children shouted "Mama" and cheered all the way, huddled around her to go out to play games; the woman hunched over, holding a child in one hand, laughing and looking at this and calling that. They laughed and laughed, like a whirlwind of color, like a happy party.
This is not a playground, a kindergarten, this is a Weifang Children's Welfare Institute – a place to adopt orphans and abandoned children. The woman is Yang Shouwei, 51, vice president of the Weifang Children's Welfare Institute. In her 22 years in the industry, she has raised 1,029 children, 467 of whom were adopted by loving families. Under the care and support of the party committees and governments at all levels for orphaned and abandoned children, she and her colleagues carried a "lonely boat" that was only stranded by fate to the other side of the light with love.
"As long as it comes, it's my child"
In March 2000, during Yang Liuyi's season, Yang Shouwei, a 29-year-old and new mother, was transferred to the Children's Department of Weifang Social Welfare Institute as a nurse. Isn't it just about watching children? She thought. But as soon as she reported, she was stunned: she was almost 10 years old and could not walk, blind, deaf and dumb, and could not chew when she fed food to her mouth... Ninety percent of the children here are seriously ill and disabled children, how to coax? But when she heard that they were all orphaned children, she softened her heart and decided to stay and take care of them.
In welfare homes, nursing care is often lifesaver. When the premature baby Min Min was admitted to the hospital, he was only 2 pounds and 9 pairs, and he also had heart disease and pneumonia, and was dying. Yang Shouwei took the initiative to ask Miao to take care of her. At that time, there was no incubator in the hospital, and she used a hot water bottle to maintain the child's temperature 24 hours a day; the child would not swallow, so she would drop milk into the child's mouth once every two hours. In more than a month, Min Min grew 5 pounds; at about 1 year old, with the help of the "Tomorrow Plan", Min Min underwent heart surgery and gradually recovered her health.
Zhang Xinmin, the old director of the Weifang Social Welfare Institute, is still deeply impressed, and Yang Shouwei regards the children in the hospital as his own. In 2004, Yang Shouwei and his colleagues took Dawn, a 3-year-old child with cleft lip and palate, to Qingzhou for surgery. After the operation, Xiao Liming did not look for anyone else, and was afraid that he would scratch his lips, yang Shouwei hugged him for three days and three nights. This scene was filmed by the media who went to the hospital to interview the "Smile Train", and Yang Shouwei unknowingly became one of the top ten news figures who "moved Qilu" that year.
After 5 years of midnight shifts, in 2006, Yang Shouwei competed to become the "parent" of the "Elf House" of the simulated family in the hospital, responsible for the care of infants and young children aged 0-3 and cerebral palsy aged 3-16 in the hospital. Taking care of the children, she felt even more responsible.
On February 18, 2010, the welfare home received a snow-white child with HIV antibodies, Xue Xue. Some of the temporary care workers immediately resigned and went home as soon as they heard about it. When Yang Shouwei first heard the word "AIDS", he was also a little scared. But she was not intimidated and took the initiative to take care of it. She consulted experts from many sources and learned that Xuexue is different from real AIDS patients, and it is possible to turn yin, so she instructed everyone to stabilize their minds and formulate special nursing plans. After the careful care of the nursing staff, Xuexue turned negative at 8 months and was adopted by the family at the age of 3.
It's not just Min Min and Snow. In the past 22 years, Yang Shouwei has nursed children with ichthyosis who are scabbed and suppurated, children without right ribs, and children with infectious diseases such as hepatitis A and hepatitis B. Asked where her courage came from, she said: "They were abandoned by their parents, and we don't care who cares?" Must be admitted unconditionally. As long as it comes, it's my child! ”
"Do everything possible to give the child what fate owes"
The reporter went to Weifang Children's Welfare Institute four times to interview and felt that the children here were relaxed and friendly. Some of them waved to reporters, and some said to reporters, "Auntie is good."
When Yang Shouwei first arrived at the welfare home, the children were not so active. They spend most of their time lying in bed, staring at the ceiling and eating fingers, often crying for no reason.
In 2006, after being hospitalized in a frozen hospital bed with a fever, Yang Shouwei suddenly understood why the children were crying in bed. The first thing she did when she returned to the hospital was to let the child "get out of bed": twice a day, she carried the child to the mat, so that the child could sit, climb, play and communicate together. The caregivers sat on the ground, holding one in their arms and one on their backs, playing with the children. Gradually, the children stopped being in a daze and hiding from people, and began to jump and chirp. "The love that the child understands is the embrace of the mother." Let's give each child an average love. Yang Shouwei said.
For children with limited activities such as cerebral palsy, she is also not left behind. In 2010, with the strong investment of the local government and the enthusiastic support of all sectors of society, Weifang Children's Welfare Institute moved to the new site of Weifang High-tech Zone, with better medical, rehabilitation, education and living conditions, and she used this to carry out emotional communication, psychological care, music therapy and rehabilitation training for children with cerebral palsy. The "Comprehensive Intervention Method for Children with Cerebral Palsy" summed up by her won the "First Prize of National Psychological Management and Technological Innovation" in 2012.
"Caregivers understand and love children, so they can live better." I will do everything possible to give the child what fate owes. Yang Shouwei said.
"For this light, I am willing to give all my love"
Returning to the family is the best way out for orphaned children. For "this day", Yang Shouwei and the nursing staff mothers have made arduous efforts.
Babe, a premature girl, has a deformed lower limb and is almost two years old and cannot stand. Yang Shouwei drew up a rehabilitation plan for her, and after insisting on rehabilitation training for 15 months, Babe stood up, learned to walk, and was later adopted.
On the third floor of the children's welfare home, the reporter saw that the entire floor is a classroom, with a fine division of functions and complete teaching aids, where children can practice hand-eye coordination, big movements, walking, grasping, handicrafts, etc.
In addition to teaching children to take care of themselves, Yang Shouwei also teaches children to learn to express love and give love, so that they can one day go to society with a healthy mind. The little boy had a serious heart attack, his lips were purple after the first operation, and many families were reluctant to adopt him. When he was more than 4 years old, there were adoptive parents who went to the courtyard to see their children, and they were just in time for dinner, and Yang Yang was the first to come in, set up tables and chairs with Yang Shouwei, and helped the children to wear their coats; when eating, the children next to him looked at his bowls, and he handed the meal to the children to eat. The parent was touched and said, "I want to give this child a home." ”
"Some children can't speak or move, but whenever I approach them and pick them up, I find that there is light in their eyes." Yang Shouwei said, "For this light, I am willing to continue to pass on all love and pay all love." ”
