Behind the children's bright smiling faces is inseparable from Yang Shouwei's hard work. 22 years ago, Yang Shouwei filled the shortcomings of orphaned children's lives with a simple smile, and guarded the children's vigorous growth with regretless dedication.
Back in 2000, Yang Shouwei, then 29, came to work in the children's department of Weifang Welfare Institute and became a full-time nurse for orphaned children. The children in the welfare home have different conditions, different severity, and the severe disability rate is more than 90%, far beyond Yang Shouwei's imagination, which makes her very distressed as a new mother. Since then, she has secretly decided to be their mother, to let them thrive in the sun and rain like other children.
On weekdays, feeding, urinating, and keeping vigil on duty, Yang Shouwei's time is almost all occupied by children. In the cold winter months, the figure of her burying her head in washing diapers also left a deep mark on the hearts of the old dean and other nursing staff. In 2009, the welfare home took in a child with severe cleft lip and palate, who was somewhat malnourished because of incomplete swallowing organs. Yang Shouwei named him Jianjian in the hope that he could grow up healthily.
"He has cleft lip and palate, so it's more difficult to feed. In the beginning, we used a spoon to feed him, and used the spoon to feed the milk into his mouth drop by drop, but when the milk was halfway through, the milk was cold, and sometimes when the drops were too much, he would choke. Yang Shouwei recalls the appearance of taking care of Jian Jian at the beginning. Jian Jian finished every meal crying, and Yang Shouwei sweated when she fed a meal, but she never wanted to give up. After much trial and error, she tried to put a new drip hose with a clean syringe and push the milk evenly onto the child's little tongue, and Jian Jian quickly mastered the rhythm of swallowing.
From social science, medical treatment, rehabilitation department, to morning classroom, activity room, handicraft studio, Yang Shouwei led mothers to continuously enrich the children's growth space, and every corner here left laughter. Growing up with the children of the welfare home, Jian Jian learned to sing and draw at the age of three.
Kindergarten teachers also often praise Jian Jian and his good manners, and whenever he hears this, Yang Shouwei is always full of pride. In 2015, Jian Jian was adopted by a caring family.
In the past 22 years, under the care and care of Yang Shouwei and the mothers of the nursing staff, 467 children with similar health conditions have learned to talk, eat, walk, cured their diseases, filled their bodies and minds with energy, adopted by loving families, and have their own homes.
