GAC Toyota announced its 2021 sales results: annual sales exceeded 840,000 vehicles, an increase of 11% over 2020, and it is the only brand in the joint venture brand to grow by double digits. Among them, TNGA model sales exceeded 665,000 units, accounting for 79% of the total model, an increase of 8 percentage points over the previous year; the sales of dual-engine hybrid models exceeded 182,000 units, accounting for 22% of the total sales volume, an increase of 98% year-on-year.
According to GAC Toyota's forecast, by 2025, the sales volume of dual-engine hybrid models will account for more than 50%, with a compound annual growth rate of more than 36%, and cumulative sales will exceed 2.3 million vehicles. According to the brand's latest plan, Guangfeng will challenge the target of 1 million vehicles per year this year, with an annual growth rate of 19%.
Since last year, GAC Toyota is accelerating its layout in terms of production capacity and product structure.
The new plant in Nansha, Guangzhou, is expected to officially start operations this year. The plant covers a total area of approximately 404,000 square meters and is expected to have an estimated production capacity of 200,000 units per year. At that time, GAC Toyota's total planned production capacity will reach 800,000 vehicles per year, providing sufficient support for the annual sales target of 1 million vehicles.
In terms of product structure, it is mainly aimed at the previously unused MPV and A+ class sedan models, and the popular segments of the SUV market have been upgraded - such as the compact SUV Fenglanda and mid-size SUV Weisa that were launched earlier this month and were born under the TNGA platform.
It is understood that Wesa mainly fills the market gap between Veranda and Highlander; the lower priced Fenglanda will replace C-HR as GAC Toyota's 2022 "volume-walking" compact SUV.
On January 13, at the two-car appraisal meeting of GAC Toyota Fenglanda and Weisa, we had a static experience of these two new members of the GAC Toyota TNGA SUV family.
Fenglanda was officially launched on January 6 this year, its appearance is quite recognizable, the streamlined body with clear lines, with three-dimensional chimeric front and rear fenders and aluminum alloy wheels, so that the body has obvious low center of gravity, wide body characteristics, and a more sporty attitude. Coupled with the blade-like LED headlights and the combination of suspended LED taillights, the overall line of the Frontlanda has a sharp feeling.

The Fonlanda has a length, width and height of 4485mm*1825mm*1620mm, and a wheelbase of 2640mm. The biggest feature of this compact SUV is the generous rear space inside. For example, the rear head space reaches 775mm, and with adjustable seats, passengers can feel the comfort of the large space inside. The trunk has a capacity of 438L and can easily fit four 22- and two 24-inch suitcases.
In terms of interior, FengLanda continues Toyota's consistent simplicity and atmosphere, and adopts a more youthful two-color color, the steering wheel and gear lever are wrapped in leather, and the roof is equipped with a panoramic sunroof. The high-end model is equipped with a 7-inch color TFT multi-function information display and a 9-inch electronic voice navigation system.
According to the official introduction of GAC Toyota: the new car also has the "Fengyun Yuexiang" intelligent interconnection service, which can realize the remote control of the mobile phone to the vehicle, and support HiCar/Carplay/Carlife a variety of intelligent linkage, which can realize online navigation, online video and audio, "Hello Xiaoyue" intelligent assistant, car home interconnection, life services, Bluetooth music, PVM panoramic monitoring system, intelligent dual-cycle automatic air conditioning, intelligent keyless entry system, one-key start and many other intelligent cockpit functions.
The Fenglanda is equipped with a TNGA 2.0L Dynamic Force Engine with a maximum power of 126 kW and a low fuel consumption of 5.7L/100 km under NEDC, matching the Direct Shift-CVT gearbox that can simulate 10 speeds.
At the tasting meeting, there was also a mid-size SUV Thatsa, which was also officially launched in January.
It is reported that Wessa adopts the design concept of "Refined-tech Simplicity", so the appearance looks more novel and unique. For example, the body has a large area of varied curved surfaces, so that no matter from which angle, people can feel the complex and three-dimensional body light and shadow effect of this car, which is quite textured. The shape of the LED headlights is simple and narrow, which has a sense of sharpness and toughness, and further enhances the wide body feeling of Wei Sa. The left and right taillights are connected by a horizontal light band and are a relatively common one-piece through layout.
With a body length of 4780mm*1855mm*1660mm and a wheelbase of 2690mm, wesa is a typical mid-size SUV. From the interior, the inner compartment of this car is quite textured. Larger interior parts such as dashboards, centre consoles, armrest boxes and inner door panels are covered by high-grade softness, while frequently touched parts such as steering wheels, gear levers, and door armrests are covered with genuine leather fabrics. In addition, the car's leather seats are made of two-color double stitching, and the driver's seat and passenger seat have their own seat ventilation and heating.
More importantly, Wesa also has a lot of luxury technology configurations. For example, Toyota's world-first dimmable panoramic sunroof, according to the official introduction, 1 second can switch the dimming mode and the transmission mode, both modes can block more than 99% of ultraviolet rays.
The Premium Edition and above come standard with the JBL Premium Sound System, which features nine JBL speakers, 12 channels, up to 1200 watts of DSP amplifiers, Clair-Fi source restoration technology and JBL's signature treble horn technology – both treble and bass, and no stress to listen to a symphony in the car.
In terms of intelligent interconnection, Wesa adopts the most popular 12.3-inch instrument + 12.3-inch central control double large screen + 10-inch HUD head-up display three-screen linkage mode, and the car machine system is equipped with the latest Android system, equipped with rich ecological service functions including navigation, face recognition, voice recognition, home appliance connection, etc., to achieve "the car machine is the mobile phone".
It is reported that a large amount of sound insulation materials have also been added to all parts of the body of Weisa, including around the dashboard, the fender lining, the door interior panel, the underside of the trunk, and around the tailgate. The window glass of the whole car is thickened, and the front side windows of the high-end model are made of double-layer noise reduction glass, and the door frame seal is added to reduce wind noise and achieve excellent quietness that is not affected by driving.
According to the official introduction of GAC Toyota, Weisa adopts Toyota dual-engine hybrid technology, equipped with 2.0L gasoline and 2.5L dual-engine hybrid two major powertrains, providing two kinds of four-wheel drive options.
The 2.0L gasoline model adopts a 2.0L Dynamic Force engine with a thermal efficiency of 40%, matching the simulated 10-speed Direct Shift-CVT transmission, and the fuel consumption of 100 km in comprehensive working conditions (NEDC) is as low as 5.9L; the 2.5L dual-engine hybrid model adopts the new fourth-generation THSII. Toyota hybrid system, and the TNGA 2.5L Dynamic Force engine has a thermal efficiency of 41%. The fuel consumption of 100 km of comprehensive operating conditions (NEDC) is as low as 4.5L, and the cruising range can reach more than 1000 km.
