As the two hegemonic countries in the world, the United States and the Soviet Union, because the whole world has not yet recovered from the losses of the Second World War, prioritizing economic development to restore national strength has become an inevitable choice for each country, and these two hegemonic countries take care of each other and do not want to trigger war again at this juncture. The Soviet Union's intention to use Vietnam to make a fuss about China was obvious, but at this time, something that the Soviet Union did not expect happened, the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States, and the official visit of Comrade Deng Xiaoping to the United States. During his visit to the United States, when discussing major strategic issues with US President Carter, Deng Xiaoping pointed out: The main danger of world unrest comes from the Soviet Union, so China is willing to work with the United States to resist the Soviet Union.
Based on the relatively tense international relations between the United States and the Soviet Union, the then US President Carter warned the Soviet Union through the US-Soviet hotline to prevent the Soviet Union from taking any action to further deteriorate the current situation, and at the same time prevent the Soviet Union from taking any military risks against China, and the factors on the US side, the Soviet side had to seriously consider, this is based on a series of deployments of the United States in Europe, the focus of the US-Soviet hegemony is Europe, so when the prelude to China's self-defense counterattack war against Vietnam kicked off, The Soviet Union took almost no military risks.
Although Vietnam ignored several warnings and even acted more arrogantly on the border, China has begun to grow stronger, and with the experience of decades of war, our country has made rapid progress in military terms. In order to resolutely defend the integrity of the territory, on February 17, 1979, our army began to march into Vietnam. They counterattacked Vietnam from the directions of Guangxi and Yunnan, and also sent 774 aircraft to hold firm in the air for reconnaissance. Cover was also arranged for air force anti-aircraft artillery and surface-to-air missile units. Under such a strong attack, Vietnam was repulsed by our army. On March 16, 1979, after China achieved its goal of punishing Vietnam, it withdrew its troops in a timely manner, and the counterattack against Vietnamese self-defense ended in the victory of our army.
