After Zhu Di entered the city of Nanjing, he asked Fang Xiaoru to write an edict of accession to the throne. Fang Xiaoru resolutely refused to write, and also scolded Zhu Di as a "usurper of the throne." Zhu Di said, this is our family's business, what do you say so much? Fang Xiaoru said that the country is the country of the people under the heavens, and if you "usurp the throne", you should be blamed by the people of the world, how can it be a matter for your family? Zhu Di said, if you want to talk nonsense again, I will condemn you to the Nine Tribes. Fang Xiaoru said, "You will condemn me to the Ten Tribes." I also want to say that you "usurped the throne".
As a result, Zhu Di really killed Fang Xiaoru's Ten Clans.

Zhu Di's approach is somewhat unclear. Why is it not easy to understand?
First, Zhu Di has gained Jiangshan. After gaining the country, the most important thing is to win the hearts of those intellectuals who can speak the Tao. As long as the hearts of intellectuals are drawn, they will support themselves and speak well for themselves. As long as you support yourself and say good things for yourself, the people of the world will obey.
After Kublai Khan captured Wen Tianxiang, he must surrender. Even if Wen Tianxiang did not surrender, Kublai Khan did not care, but always gave Wen Tianxiang a chance. Kublai Khan's practice has also won the admiration of the people of the world. Although in the end Kublai Khan still killed Wen Tianxiang, everyone only blamed Liu Mengyan, believing that Liu Mengyan had harmed Wen Tianxiang, and no one criticized Kublai Khan.
Second, Zhu Di should know that Fang Xiaoru's personality is very strong, and he must be unyielding to death, and he let Fang Xiaoru write, which can only be self-pleading.
Admittedly, what Zhu Di thought was that since Fang Xiaoru was Zhu Yunru's right and left arm, if Fang Xiaoru was willing to write, then it meant that he could get support. But in fact, this truth is not true. Why? Because this can only show that Fang Xiaoru has no integrity, the people of the world will only look down on Xiaoru, and it does not show that everyone supports Zhu Di.
For example, Wei Chi Jingde, he was unwilling to surrender to Li Shimin, and everyone respected Wei Chi Jingde. And Shan Xiongxin surrendered many times, and everyone felt that Shan Xiongxin was a soft-headed person. At the same time, everyone also praised Li Shimin for his magnanimity. Zhuge Liang's seven captures and seven indulgences are won, and later generations also regard this as a good story.

Why didn't Zhu Di entertain Fang Xiaoru?
Some people may say that Zhu Di was forced to be anxious at that time.
Saying that Zhu Di was forced to be anxious at that time also had some truth.
At the beginning, Zhu Di was still relatively gentle, he said, this is our family affair, what does it have to do with you? As you can see here. Zhu Di actually wanted to resolve the contradiction, not to use very harsh means. However, Fang Xiaoru pointed at Mai Mang, and did not give Zhu Di face at all, causing Zhu Di's anger to rise at once, so Zhu Di said in passing, "I will curse you Nine Tribes." And Fang Xiaoru went so far as to say that the "Ten Tribes" would also say that you had usurped the throne. In this way, it made it difficult for Zhu Di to ride a tiger. If he didn't accuse Fang Xiaoru of the "Ten Tribes", he would have no authority. After all, the emperor's golden words and words cannot be changed casually.
However, although this statement makes sense, it does not seem to be substantive. As a politician with a deep heart, Zhu Di will not easily get angry. It is said that he killed Fang Xiaoru because he was angry, which is obviously underestimating him.
That is to say, Zhu Di killed Fang Xiaoru, obviously for another purpose.
(Stills of Zhu Yunjiao)
What is the purpose?
We know that after Zhu Di entered the city of Nanjing, Zhu Yunjiao's whereabouts were unknown at that time. Was he burned to death, or did he escape? Zhu Di is not clear. Judging from the fact that Zhu Di later searched for Zhu Yunjiao many times and even sent Zheng He to the West to find Zhu Yunjiao overseas, Zhu Di was very afraid of whether Zhu Yunjiao was alive or not.
What was Zhu Di afraid of? That is to say, if Zhu Yunjiao is still alive, there will inevitably be people who will support Zhu Yunjiao's rebellion. In this way, Zhu Di's country was unstable.
If you find Zhu Yunjiao and kill him, it will be a hundred. However, if he couldn't find it for a while and a half, what Zhu Di should do was to cut off Zhu Yunjiao's left and right arms first. As long as these left and right arms are cut off, even if Zhu Yunjiao is still alive, Zhu Di is not afraid.
In this way, we seem to understand why Zhu Diming knew that Fang Xiaoru had a strong personality and let him write an edict to the throne.
Zhu Di wanted Fang Xiaoru to show disobedience at that time, so that he would find evidence of Fang Xiaoru's guilt, thus killing him and killing Fang Xiaoru's henchmen and sympathizers. As long as these henchmen and sympathizers are killed, even if Zhu Yunjiao is not dead, no one will support him in rebellion.
Probably, this is the fundamental reason why Zhu Di must force Fang Xiaoru to write an edict on the throne.
