However, in recent years, many manufacturers have begun to integrate the advantages of the two to create a new form of power.
First there is Toyota's dual engine E+ series, followed by Honda's e:PHEV, BYD DM-i, and the Great Wall Motor DHT-PHEV experienced by professors in this issue.
The MOCHA DHT-PHEV is the second DHT-PHEV model launched by Great Wall Motor's high-end brand Weipai, which was launched worldwide at the Munich Motor Show in September 2021, and today is the first time that professors have had the opportunity to have a preliminary experience of it.

After all, it is a new version of the Mocha series, and no one will feel strange if it looks exactly the same, right?
Inside the carriage, the feeling of "exactly the same" is stronger, because there is no PHEV logo and any green details here.
But it has also changed, but it is hidden inside.
The first is the 14.6-inch central touch screen, which is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, and the Wei brand executives also made a guarantee at the event about this, and the Mocha DHT-PHEV that everyone buys in the future will definitely be equipped with this chip.
The energy flow display of the power system has also been added to the system, and the power mode and the option of power reserve mode and single pedal mode have also been added to the driving settings menu.
Then let's focus on the most important part of this new car - the powertrain.
This new DHT-PHEV power system is based on a 1.5T turbocharged engine, compared to the 2.0T engine of the traditional fuel version of Mocha, this 1.5T engine that focuses on optimizing fuel efficiency will certainly not have the same level of power output, but it only needs to be responsible for providing driving force when cruising at high speed and has a total drive motor assistance, so it is significantly superior to the traditional fuel version model in terms of comprehensive power.
The model experienced by the professor is the high-performance electric four-wheel drive version of mocha DHT-PHEV, which is the most powerful version of the series.
According to Weipai's official data, the front and rear drive motors of this model can output 130kW and 135kW maximum power respectively, and the acceleration of 0-100km/h can achieve only 4.8s.
If the 7.8s acceleration performance of the traditional fuel version model relying on the 2.0T + 9DCT power combination is outstanding, then the new car's 4.8 seconds can be regarded as outstanding.
This 1.5T engine also contains many technical highlights, such as 11.8:1 high compression ratio, Miller cycle, variable section turbocharger, 350Bar high-pressure direct injection and other technologies, so that this engine is not only compact in size, but also achieves up to 38% thermal efficiency.
Moreover, the MOCHA DHT-PHEV is also equipped with a set of battery packs with a capacity of up to 39.67kWh, and according to the introduction, the long-endurance version can achieve a pure electric endurance of 204km (the pure electric mileage of the high-performance electric four-wheel drive version is 175km).
Even if the battery is kept conservatively, it can easily travel hundreds of kilometers on the battery alone.
What does this mean? As long as you recharge diligently, you can even achieve zero fuel consumption for daily commuting and saving a lot of fuel money.
Another point to introduce is the set of intelligent DHT mechanisms, after all, it innovatively uses a two-speed transmission, so that the 1.5T engine can be directly involved in vehicle driving in a wider speed range.
It is not a bad thing to let the engine participate more in the drive, because the power distribution structure of the previous oil-electric hybrid system usually only gives the engine a fixed gear ratio, that is, the engine can only intervene in a specific high-speed cruise state to drive and share the working pressure of the motor.
So it is as if the motor is already in a high load state at a speed of more than 80km/h, but the engine can only occasionally help the motor to rest at a speed of 100km/h; other times, even if the motor work burden is large, the engine can only continue to work to generate electricity for the motor, and it seems that the energy consumption is really not necessarily very low.
But with a two-speed transmission, it's different, which means the powertrain has a wider range of power distribution options under different operating conditions.
For example, in the low-speed road conditions of the city, it can be driven by pure electric drive or series drive (engine power generation, motor drive), and when accelerating sharply, the engine and the motor can jointly contribute to improve the acceleration performance, and when cruising in the suburbs, the engine can drive the vehicle directly through the medium speed gear, so that the engine is running at an economic speed while saving power; at high speed, it can switch to the second-speed direct drive to match the corresponding engine economic speed.
This truly realizes that the engine is in the most fuel-efficient state all the time, and achieves excellent results of comprehensive fuel consumption of 0.73L per 100 kilometers, fuel consumption of 6.3L per 100 kilometers of feeder and comprehensive cruising range of more than 1000km.
If you choose the long-endurance version, its comprehensive 100 km fuel consumption can even be reduced to 0.45L, and the feed fuel consumption can be reduced to 5.55L.
Unfortunately, due to various reasons, the vehicles of this experience cannot be driven to open public roads for dynamic test drives.
However, after a short experience on the internal road in the activity area, I also gained some initial driving experience.
First of all, there is a clear stylistic difference between the steering feel of the Mocha DHT-PHEV and its 4.8s power advantage, and the steering feel is very light, so that this new car seems to have some personality splits in terms of power experience and handling experience.
In addition, because this set of power system in the low and medium speed state is mainly driven by the motor to drive the vehicle forward, the working characteristics are somewhat similar to the extended range electric vehicle, so there is no setback in the low and medium speed driving, but also through the single pedal mode to control the vehicle deceleration, driving up as comfortable and convenient as a mature pure electric vehicle model.
However, when the 1.5T engine is started, a little vibration can also be felt in the cabin, although this vibration duration is very short, basically only appears at the moment of engine start,but it will still have a little impact on the riding and driving experience.
As for the high-speed cruising performance and the powerful acceleration performance, there is no way to experience it at present.
Although the experience is short, it is certain that the Mocha DHT-PHEV launched by Weipai this time uses more materials and has a higher technical content, which seems to better match its high-end positioning and the price that is estimated to be in the range of 200,000-300,000.
