After several months of deliberation, Mercedes-Benz has finally officially unveiled the EQXX Concept pure electric concept car, as the peak of efficiency created by the brand's technology Dentons, the EQXX Concept can provide up to 1,000 kilometers of endurance on a single charge. Mercedes-Benz did not disclose the battery capacity used, only that it was less than 100kWh, that is, it was not higher than the Tesla Model S.
The bottleneck encountered in the development of the endurance of electric vehicles is that "the battery capacity cannot be increased all the time", and the increase in the weight of the vehicle is increased by the increase in the weight of the vehicle, and the increase in vehicle weight is equal to the increase in energy consumption. This leads to a continuous diminishing marginal benefit of stacked batteries, resulting in a surge in costs without a corresponding significant improvement in endurance. Mercedes-Benz naturally understands the problem, so their engineering team developed the EQXX Concept in the "more efficient" approach.
The EQXX Concept isn't a selling point for performance, so the car is powered by only one 150kW motor, which translates to about 201 horsepower. The point is that the electric motor is extremely efficient, mercedes-Benz said that only 5% of the energy will be consumed in the process of powering, that is, 95% of the energy can be used from the battery through the motor to drive the tire. In addition, the body design is also very amazing, the EQXX Concept has a wind resistance of only 0.18, and the vehicle seems to be like a sharp blade that can cut through the air when driving, avoiding waste of energy as much as possible to fight wind resistance.
Lightweight is also one of the important means to increase endurance, the original factory said that the battery capacity is close to 100kWh, but also mentioned that compared with the battery pack on the EQS, the EQXX Concept battery pack is not only 50% smaller in size, but also 30% lighter in weight. And to support 900V DC fast charging, the total weight of the entire battery pack with frame is only 495 kg.
In order to use all the energy as much as possible, in addition to the kinetic energy recovery system that electric vehicles will inevitably have, Mercedes-Benz has installed a solar power generation system for the EQXX Concept, which is responsible for supplying a number of electronic systems and equipment in the car, such as air conditioning fans, lights, infotainment systems... Wait a minute. The electricity generated by the solar panels is stored in a separate lithium battery, which ideally could provide an additional 25 km of range.
Although it has a streamlined and slender line, the EQXX Concept is actually not very large, with a body length of 4,680mm and a wheelbase of 2,800mm, which is even a little smaller than the 4,750mm and 2,865mm of this generation of C-Class. The weight of the car is only 1,750 kg, which is similar to that of small and medium-sized fuel vehicles, which is naturally much lighter than the electric vehicles in the same range.
At present, the EQXX Concept looks more like a runway for brand technology, proving to the world that it has the leading electric vehicle technology. As for whether the EQXX Concept has the opportunity for mass production in the future, the original factory has not relaxed its position on this.
