The new car can be regarded as a pure electric version of the BMW 5 Series, and it is also another new product of the BMW i series pure electric model. With the continuous advancement of the wave of electrification, major car companies have launched their own pure electric series models, and following the BMW i4, iX and i3 and other pure electric models have been unveiled, BMW will also launch a pure electric medium and large sedan i5 to further enrich its pure electric product matrix.
According to foreign media reports, the new BMW i5 will be unveiled and listed as a 2023 model in 2022, which also means that its time to market is at least the second half of this year or even the end of the year. Of course, there is also news that the i5 will appear as a 2024 model in 2023, and the specific progress depends on BMW's official plans and arrangements.
In terms of appearance, on the whole, the i5 basically retains a lot of iconic elements of BMW models, and its relative change from the fuel version of the 5 Series is very similar to the i4 compared to the 4 Series. The new car will continue to carry the BMW family's iconic "double kidney" grille, but it is expected to be adjusted to a closed shape similar to the i3, with the addition of blue elements. Compared with the current 5 series, the headlights of the new car may have a large adjustment, the shape is more narrow and sharp, and the interior LED daytime running lights inverted L-shaped design is also very aggressive. In addition, the new car will also adopt a three-stage intake opening design, which is basically the same as BMW's fuel vehicles.
The rendering shows us the travel version of the i5, and the regular sedan version will certainly be launched. The side lines of the new car are not too obvious features, but the previous spy photos show us the overseas standard axle version of the model, and it is expected that after the new car is introduced into domestic sales, it will be extended like the new i3.
In terms of power, foreign media predict that the new car will provide three power models of eDrive40, xDrive40 and i5 M50, of which eDrive40 is a rear-drive version equipped with a single motor on the rear axle, while the other two cars are four-wheel drive models. In addition, the i5 M50 model is expected to be equipped with three drive motors, and the combined maximum power of the system will be 750 horsepower.
