However, from the very beginning, the Beiyang warlords used the military academy as a decoration, deducted funds every year, and repeatedly warned Jiang Baili not to reform. In the end, his plan went with it, and he was discouraged and shot himself at the school-wide teacher-student assembly. Fortunately, he was sent to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment in time and did not harm his life.
At the request of the Beiyang government, the Japanese Embassy sent medical personnel to treat him, and the Japanese nurse Sato Yaden was responsible for taking care of his daily life and mental condition. In order to prevent him from committing suicide again, she told Jiang Baili to put the country first and not to seek short-sightedness because of setbacks.
Under Sato's meticulous care and comfort, he gave up the idea of suicide, and at the same time, Jiang Baili began to gradually fall in love with the nurse. After recovering, Sato was recalled to Beiping, and in order to be with her, Jiang Baili painstakingly went north under the pretext of "going to Beiping to rest". He lives in the hospital where Sato works and seizes the opportunity to pursue it.
Lovers eventually become dependents
Sato naturally knew Jiang Baili's intentions, and she also had a good feeling for Jiang Baili. However, Sato's parents were adamantly opposed, and they would never let their daughter marry Chinese, let alone a Chinese officer. In order to prevent them from being together, her parents deliberately recalled her to Japan to prevent her from meeting Jiang Baili. Deep-seated prejudices and insurmountable psychological divides in the hearts of the two peoples have hindered the development between the two men.
However, Jiang Baili did not give up this relationship. Despite the distance, he insisted on writing to her. After marriage, Sato Yaden changed his name to "Jiang Zuomei", Jiang was her husband's surname, and Zo was his own surname, because Jiang Baili liked plum blossoms, so he finally used the word plum.
Husbands sing women along
They had five daughters in their lifetime. In addition to the untimely death of the eldest daughter, the other four daughters have achieved something. Among them, the second daughter, Jiang Yong, is a high-achieving student at the University of Chinese in Hong Kong; the third daughter is the famous singer Jiang Ying, who is also the wife of Qian Xuesen, the "father of China's aerospace"; the fourth daughter, Jiang Hua, is a famous overseas Chinese educator who founded the European Zhongshan School; the younger daughter Jiang He, who is deeply loved by Jiang Baili, has traveled all over Europe with her father since childhood, and now lives in Beijing.
In 1937, when the Japanese army invaded China, Jiang Baili was unable to go to the front line due to illness. But he devoted his life to the book "On National Defense", made a precise analysis of the form of war, proposed solutions, and made a very important contribution to the subsequent guidance of operations. In November of the same year, Jiang Baili died, and Jiang Zuomei adhered to her husband's last wishes and actively devoted herself to the revolutionary cause. She sold jewelry and cars to raise money for military supplies. In addition, she returned to the battlefield as an army nurse, saving lives.
Witnessing the atrocities committed by the Japanese army in China, she was also deeply disappointed in her compatriots and was determined to break with Japan, which practiced militarism once and for all. Although she is Japanese, she never teaches her children to speak Japanese and teaches them to follow traditional Chinese culture.
From marriage to death, Jiang Zuomei never returned to Japan in 64 years. In 1978, at the age of 88, she died at home. After her death, her bones were buried in Nanshan, buried with her husband. Because of a person, and fall in love with his country, she is the wife of China - Jiang Zuomei.
