According to foreign media reports, nearly 500,000 Tesla Model 3 and Model S electric vehicles have been recalled due to camera and safety issues.

Tesla has twice made massive recalls of nearly 500,000 Model 3 and Model S electric sedans due to issues related to trunks and sockets. The recall will affect all Model 3 models produced between 2017 and 2020, as well as some Model Ss produced between 2014 and 2021. At present, the automaker has not found any accidents, injuries or deaths related to this situation.
According to official documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the number of model models produced between July 15, 2017 and September 30, 2020, is likely to involve 356,309. In addition, the Model S model produced between September 16, 2014 and December 23, 2021 may involve 119,009 units. The Model 3 and Model S have defect rates of 1% and 14%, respectively.
More specifically, in the 2017-2020 Model 3, repeatedly opening and closing the trunk lid can cause excessive wear on the coaxial cables inside the trunk harness, which is used for rearview cameras. If necessary, the rearview camera can be prevented from malfunctioning by installing a guide protector and a new wiring harness.
As of February 18, 2022, Tesla will notify the owners of the affected vehicles by email, providing this service free of charge. The 2021 Model 3 is not subject to the recall as it comes with a different trunk wiring harness design.
As for the 2014-2021 Model S, the defect is related to the secondary lock. On some vehicles, the latching components may align too far back, potentially preventing the latching of the secondary latches. This means that if the primary latch is inadvertently released and the secondary latch is not opened, the trunk may open without warning, obstructing the driver's view and increasing the risk of crashing.
The company will send a notification letter to owners of the affected vehicles on February 18, 2022, to schedule service repairs.
