Since its inception in 2015, the Shenzhen Contemporary Art Biennale has incorporated local contemporary art into the discussion framework of global contemporary culture, rooted in the locality, paying attention to the relationship between Shenzhen and the Pearl River Delta region and the world, thinking inwardly, and combing itself, including the evolution of Shenzhen contemporary art culture, the boom in the construction of urban art museums, etc. The exhibition has gone through 6 years here. Under the new historical opportunities and the requirements of literary and artistic creation, the Shenzhen Contemporary Art Biennale will connect and reconstruct the "unknown zone" that has not yet been defined through art, and open up a new realm of literature and art with masterpieces that keep up with the times.

The 4th Shenzhen Contemporary Art Biennale, with the theme of "Unknown Land: Thoughts and Changes", responds to Shenzhen's urban spirit of advancing with the times. This biennale tries to construct in retrospect, open dialogue on documents, find the artistic characteristics that have been precipitated from the historical framework, and then take Guangdong itself, especially the Pearl River Delta region, as the regional "self", to put forward thinking about the local biennial developed under the economic take-off, taking the art group and pan-institutional practice as the object, re-taking the initiative to define, practice and construct, and walking out of a new way out in the mutated era environment.
The Biennale covers four exhibition units, namely "Biennale Mechanism", "Space and Practice", "Art Organization, Community and Plan", and "Pearl River Delta Art Concept Map". The exhibition focuses on documents, videos and historical pictures, while covering the artistic content of paintings, sculptures and installations, showing how institutions and their practices can build culture in the Pearl River Delta region and promote the cultural development of cities in the new era.
