It was later reorganized into the Independent 1st Division of the Ningxia Military Region, and the number of the Independent 2nd Army was abolished.

The Independent 3rd Army was reorganized from the Kuomintang 119th Army that revolted in the Wudu area of Gansu. On December 9, 1949, under the military pressure and political struggle of our army, the Kuomintang 119th Army launched an uprising led by commander Wang Zhiqi and deputy commander Jiang Yuntai, and established the Yiye (Northwest) Independent 3rd Army, with Jiang Yuntai as the commander.

Jiang Yuntai was a native of Dingxi, Gansu Province, born in 1905, graduated from the Longdong Wushu Academy and the Higher Education Class of the Army University, and served as the brigade commander of the Fifth Brigade of Chen Juezhang's department, the deputy commander of the 165th Division of the Kuomintang, the lieutenant general of the Kuomintang 119th Army and the commander of the 244th Division.

In 1950, the independent 3rd Army was abolished, and the subordinate units were incorporated into the units of the Northwest Military Region.
