This army was the 36th Army. This super army was founded in July 1945 by Hu Zongnan's compatriot Zhong Song. Mention the name Zhong Song, some friends may not be very familiar with it, indeed, in terms of popularity alone, Zhong Song is far inferior to Zhang Lingfu and Hu Lian and others, but his military ability is not worse than these people, and even more so.
Zhong Song is a native of Songyang, Zhejiang Province, and is a fellow villager with Old Jiang and Hu Zongnan, and after graduating from normal school, he worked as a primary school teacher in his hometown for two years. In 1924, at the age of 24, Zhong Song went south to Guangzhou and was admitted to the Huangpu Phase I. Not long after the school started, he was infected with typhoid fever and was misdiagnosed as a terminal illness by the military school doctor, thanks to the timely help of fellow villager Zhang Shuqing, Zhong Song saved his life. However, after such a toss, he delayed a lot of studies and had to enter the Huangpu Phase II to continue his studies. After graduating from the military academy, Zhong Song successively participated in the Eastern Expedition, the Northern Expedition, and the Battle of the Central Plains, and won the trust of Old Chiang with his outstanding military skills.
After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Zhong Song successively participated in the Battle of Songhu, the Battle of Lanfeng and the Battle of Wuhan, and participated in the expeditionary army with Wang Lingyun, and was awarded the Order of the Blue Sky and White Sun for his military merits. When Hu Zongnan saw that Zhong Song was so capable of fighting, he immediately asked this fellow to his side. Zhong Song served as the commander of the super army for nearly a year, during which time his only task was to blockade the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region. After the outbreak of the Liberation War, this "perverted" super army was reorganized into the integrated 36th Division, which was reduced by more than one and a half, but still had more than 30,000 people.
On the battlefield, Zhong Song fully displayed his military talents, was known for being able to attack and defend, and soon became the number one general under Hu Zongnan. As we all know, during the Liberation War, the nationalist army's efforts to break the siege were rarely successful, and Zhong Song was a master in this regard. In the Battle of Yulin, he was ordered by Hu Zongnan to relieve Deng Baoshan, and Peng Zong had already planted an ambush in the middle of the road and was ready to encircle the point for reinforcements. Unexpectedly, Zhong Song chose an unexpected marching route, he led his troops out of the Great Wall and directly into the desert, after 2 days of arduous marching, he suddenly appeared under Yulin City, leaving our army's reinforcements far behind. Successfully forced our besieging troops to retreat and lifted the siege of Yulin. Three months later, Zhong Song repeated his old trick and successfully lifted the siege of Yuncheng and caused certain losses to my besieging troops.
Because Zhong Song had repeatedly caused trouble for our army on the northwest battlefield, General Peng decided to concentrate his forces to defeat him. However, Zhong Song was very alert and evaded the ambush of our army several times. Later, it was difficult to surround him at Shajiadian, but only two of his regiments were annihilated, and Zhong Song led a large army to escape, and Peng Zong called him "Zhong Song who can't die". A few months later, Nishino launched the Xifu Campaign, and at the end of the campaign, due to the siege of the superior enemy, our army was forced to retreat, and Zhong Song seized the fighter plane, advanced at a high speed of 100 miles a day, and broke up the retreating marching column of Nishino several times in a row, causing our army to suffer heavy losses. Capable of attacking and defending, having a keen sense of smell and good at catching fighters, Zhong Song became Ichino's number one enemy in the northwest battlefield. However, capable people usually have a big temper, and after the defeat of the Battle of Feng Yuan, Zhong Song angrily intimidated Hu Zongnan at the military review meeting and accused him of blind command. Hu Zongnan was furious and transferred Zhong Song away from the front line, and the nationalist general faded out of the military circles, and in 1995, Zhong Song died in the Netherlands at the age of 95.
