During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the brutality and stubbornness of the Japanese army were notorious, both of which were carefully designed by the militaristic Japanese army, which trained Japanese personnel to kill people without blinking an eye or even killing for pleasure. When these people see the misery of the slain, they will even have extreme contempt and violent pleasure in their hearts, and naturally they will not allow themselves to face this situation in war.
This is also one of the basic principles of the so-called "Bushido": only the brutal and unscrupulous people will not be able to accept the fate of being tied up like the Japanese army, which is the "effect" deliberately pursued by the militaristic Japan.

This feature of the Japanese army was not initially expected by the Eighth Route Army.
The famous Battle of Pingxingguan, the Eighth Route Army won the first major victory. Before the war, many officers and men of the Eighth Route Army did not fight with the Japanese army, not only ordinary soldiers lacked a full understanding of the Japanese army, but even Lin Biao, who had contact with Japanese instructors in the military academy, did not have enough understanding.
He originally wanted to capture a few more Japanese prisoners in this battle and parade them to the streets of Taiyuan to show the public, but as a result of a vicious battle, he did not catch a single prisoner, even if he was seriously wounded, which made Lin Biao very sorry.
However, what is less known is that it was still Lin Biao's 115th Division, which soon followed and captured the first Japanese prisoner, fulfilling Lin Biao's wishes.
The Battle of Pingxingguan was not an isolated battle, it was an integral part of the Battle of Taiyuan. After the victory of the Pingshi Pass, the 115th Division had a new mission. The 115th Division was divided into two parts, with Lin Biao leading the main force to support the Niangziguan battlefield, while Nie Rongzhen led the remaining troops to open up the Jin-Cha-Ji base area.
On November 4, 1937, Lin Biao led the 115th Division to encounter the enemy again in the Guangyang area of Shanxi, which was a part of the Japanese 20th Division. At this time, the 115th Division had less than 2 regiments of the 343rd Brigade and only about 4,000 men. However, Lin Biao was not afraid, and he decided to set up an ambush circle for the Japanese army again. He ordered Chen Guang, commander of the 343rd Brigade, to lead the 685th Regiment to intercept the Japanese army, and Chen Shiyu, chief of staff of the 343rd Brigade, to lead the 686th Brigade to encircle and annihilate the Japanese army.
After the battle began, Chen Shiyu closely observed the movement of the Japanese army at the front, and he keenly felt that the combat effectiveness of this Japanese army was inferior to that of the Japanese army in Pingxingguan. So I had a bold thought: "This time, why not capture a Japanese prisoner and fight for the Eighth Route Army?" ”
At this time, he happened to see a group of defeated Japanese troops fleeing to a depression, and Chen Shiyu immediately called the guard platoon leader over, pointed at the fleeing Japanese troops, and said: "You take some fighters to catch up, and try to capture a few prisoners!" ”
This guard platoon was carefully selected by Chen Shiyu, each of them was tall and strong, with outstanding marksmanship, or a German fast and slow machine, fierce firepower, and good hands.
The guard platoon leader and two squads quickly chased after them, and a fierce burst of gunfire was sounded, mixed with the shouts of the soldiers. After a while, the warriors came back carrying a number of three or eight big covers, but there was not a single prisoner, Chen Shiyu narrowed his eyes, "Why is there not a single living one?" ”
The guard platoon leader said grievously:
“
Chief of Staff, you don't know how stubborn these devils are, they don't listen to our shouts at all, they desperately shoot guns, only to send them back to their hometown!
”
As it slowly darkened and the battle drew to a close, the results of the battle were roughly revealed: the 686th Regiment wiped out about 500 Japanese troops. However, there were still a small number of Japanese soldiers who slipped through the net and stubbornly resisted in the village.
As soon as Chen Shiyu heard the sound of gunfire, the idea of "capturing a Japanese prisoner" ignited in his heart again. Chen Shiyu is a tough guy who is stronger in the face of the enemy, the more he wants to suppress it, and he is very unconvinced: These little devils are all raised by their parents, is there no one who has fear and cowardice? This time, he decided to grab one with his own hands!
Just then, a burst of gunfire rang out not far away. When he looked over, several soldiers were surrounding a grass hut and shooting guns, and Chen Shiyu asked, and it turned out that there was a ghost inside who was stubbornly resisting.
Only one! As soon as Chen Shiyu heard the spirit, he ordered the warriors to surround the grass house and not let the ghosts escape, and then he personally touched the dirt wall along the waist. When he came to the window, the ghosts inside were still shooting, and Chen Shiyu shouted loudly in the Japanese he had learned: "We give preferential treatment to prisoners, and we will not kill them!" He was afraid of scaring the devil, so he tried to be as gentle as possible and shouted several times in a row.
Suddenly, a Japanese "Chinese" came from inside:
Mine, understood
……”
Chen Shiyu listened to the music, there is a door! He rushed in with an arrow, and by the glimmer of light, he saw a Japanese soldier shrinking in the corner, still holding a gun in his hand, and his body trembling.
Chen Shiyu grabbed the rifle and dragged it out. The Japanese army seemed to be about to surrender, but they were afraid of encountering an accident, did not want to lose the dilemma of the gun, and got rid of the complex mentality of the Japanese army: they were not unwilling to surrender, more people were afraid of retaliation because they had done bad things.
The warriors stepped forward and tied up this guy, shouting excitedly:
Chief of Staff Chen personally captured a ghost alive!
After interrogation, the prisoner was Cao Jiajie, a heavy soldier of the 79th Regiment of the Japanese 20th Division.
Later, in the Liberation War, Chen Shiyu also often showed extraordinary boldness, and even Su Yu of Huaye once asked him to help in the war, and he was very respectful.
