In the burlesque play "The Voice of Shanghai", the audience feels the river of changing times through the most representative voices of the city and laughs. Since its inception, the goal of "The Voice of Shanghai" is to become the "Seventy-two Tenants" of the new era. How far is it from the next burlesque classic? Shanghai People's Burlesque Troupe 23 invited industry experts to consult and take the pulse of the work, and jointly explore how to spread local laughter further.
In the old town by the Huangpu River, there is an ordinary small alley. In the humble old houses, there are several ordinary families. "The Voice of Shanghai" focuses its attention on the small people in the ordinary Shanghai family, who are optimistic and strong, reflecting from them the epitome of the growing wealth and prosperity of the republic. The famous screenwriter Xu Mengdan believes that the characters in the play are the highlights of the whole play. "The characters come from the old city, and they are all people we can usually see and touch. It is not easy to write characters in burlesque, both the characteristics of each person and their true temperament, so that jokes naturally flow out of the characters.
In "The Voice of Shanghai", we can see the innovation and exploration of contemporary burlesques, "the embryo of drama, the passage of burlesque and the way of dialect drama" let the audience see a work that is different from traditional burlesque. Professors Sun Huizhu and Liu Ning of the Shanghai Theater Academy invariably mentioned that "The Voice of Shanghai" made a drama taste, which is not easy for burlesque. "In this play, I saw some of the styles of Beijing renyi, which are very grounded and truly reflect reality." Sun Huizhu said. "'The Voice of Shanghai' let me see the heart of Shanghainese people like gold, saw the warmth and coldness of people in the alley, and hoped that the audience of the whole country could see this play." Liu Ning said.
Making "The Voice of Shanghai" into a work that can be shouted, spread and retained is the original intention of Wang Rugang, director of the Shanghai People's Burlesque Troupe. In the view of Wu Xinbo, chairman of the Shanghai Qu Artists Association, the "Haipai gene" in the play is one of the important success codes of the work. "This is an authentic Shanghai opera, every detail and every character is full of Shanghai flavor," he said: "The biggest function of burlesque is to make the audience laugh, but after laughing, "The Voice of Shanghai" still leaves some touching things." I think it is very valuable that burlesque can make people laugh and make people cry. ”
