Haipai burlesque
Eight Feet in the Air
"Eight Feet in the Air"
Old Shanghai knows this Shanghainese phrase, which means "something far away"
//
A Shanghai dialect
How did it evolve into a burlesque?
From the beginning of "Sanmao Student Intention", "Seventy-two Tenants", and "Satisfied Not Satisfied", Shanghai Burlesque Opera has been welcomed by the audience for being good at interpreting the lives of ordinary people. Exposing real problems in laughter, praising truth, goodness and beauty, and transmitting positive energy are the pursuits of every burlesque play.
Stills from "Eight Feet in the Air"
"Hanging Eight Feet" is a Haipai burlesque drama created by Shanghai Shangyi Drama Society, and the pun of "hanging" in the play not only alludes to the time-consuming and laborious and difficult matter of installing an elevator in the old public house, but also refers to those "hanging old people" who cannot go downstairs for a long time because there is no elevator.
As the saying goes, it's good
"Distant relatives are not as good as close neighbors"
Times have changed, but the nostalgia for "being kind to one's neighbor" and "distant relatives are not as good as close neighbors" in traditional neighborhood relations, and the praise of the beautiful feelings of ordinary people has not gone away. "Eight Feet in the Air" not only carries the feelings of the old Shanghainese, but also carries the aspirations of the new Shanghainese.
A story that takes place in Building 6 of the Happy Second Village Community
It's also about to start
↓
Built in the 1980s, this 6-storey house is fully coal-guarded
It was the dream of many Shanghainese to live happily
Now the "new public housing" has become the "old public housing"
Because there is no elevator
The old people could not go downstairs for a long time
Become the "Hanging Old Man"
The octogenarian zhou laichun on the 6th floor had to take it
Elderly lovers with limited mobility are sent to a nursing home
In order to let the elderly "get up and down" and "grounded", the government began to promote the project of benefiting the people by installing elevators in old public houses, and Hua Yi, secretary of the housing party committee, ran around for this. However, this great thing was resolutely opposed by the residents on the first floor: Ah Er, the owner of the onion oil cake shop, was worried about his livelihood; the shrewd Bao Liping felt that the residents on the ground floor who installed the elevator had suffered a big loss and proposed huge compensation...
The installation of elevators in the old public house tests the new type of neighborhood relationship, and eventually becomes the fuse that triggers the "big war" in the neighborhood. "Distant relatives are not as good as close neighbors", is the sympathetic mutual assistance between old neighbors in the past only preserved in the memories of old houses? Is it an individual calculating the market value of a property, or is it a joint effort to recover a long-lost neighborhood affection that is difficult to measure with money?
Upstairs and downstairs, all sentient beings laughed and cursed, laughing with tears.
