Sibutramine was approved for marketing in China in 2000, initially used to treat depression, and later used for weight loss due to its appetite suppression effect. Headache, constipation, tachycardia and heart rhythm disturbances, insomnia, multi-organ damage... From 2004 to 2010, China's adverse drug reaction monitoring center received a total of 298 cases of sibutramine-related adverse reaction reports. Earlier, the World Health Organization listed it as an important risk factor for pulmonary hypertension.
Due to strong side reactions, it can be fatal when severe, in 2010, sibutramine preparations and APIs were listed as "prohibited drugs" in China, prohibiting production, sales and use. Listed products are recalled and destroyed by the production enterprise.
But it was never out of the city. In recent years, Zhejiang, Anhui and other places have successively seized a number of "net red" live streaming goods, sales of weight loss products containing sibutramine ingredients and other series of cases. In March this year, Shanghai police disclosed that they had arrested 75 suspects suspected of production and sales, including "internet celebrity" Guo Meimei.

Due to the imperfect development of children's organs, after accidental ingestion of sibutramine, the poisoning reaction is more severe and more pronounced.
In the case of the little girl Tingting, Zhao Jiaqiang, head of the medical department of Xuzhou Children's Hospital, told CCTV News that one afternoon in early March this year, at about 4 o'clock, Tingting was carried by her grandparents and came to the emergency room of the hospital. "At that time, the situation was irritable, and the emergency department physician immediately examined the body and found that in addition to irritability, the heart rate was fast, 145 beats per minute."
In general, the heart rate of a normal child of the same age is about 110-130 beats per minute.
Grandparents told the doctor that Tingting had accidentally eaten a few pills of slimming chocolate, but it was not clear what the ingredients and content were.
The hospital has adopted comprehensive treatment methods such as repeated gastric lavage and rehydration to promote the discharge of poisons. But Tingting's condition still worsened. Eventually died due to ineffective rescue.
After the tragedy, Tingting's family reported the case to the local public security organs. The local police set up a special task force. After the police tested and identified, Tingting's liver, heart blood, urine, venous blood, gastric lavage, gastric volume and vomiting spots were detected as components of the illegal drug sibutramine.

On October 31, 2020, Hunan Provincial Children's Hospital also admitted a boy who mistakenly ate "slimming chocolate". The outer packaging of this product is very similar to ordinary chocolate, and the main ingredient is sibutramine.
At that time, the child was only 2 years and 3 months old. Zhou Xiong, deputy chief physician of the first department of intensive care medicine of Hunan Children's Hospital, told the media that when the child arrived at the hospital, his limbs moved a lot, he did not stop exercising, basically did not sleep, sweated all over his body, exceeded the normal heart rate of 50%, and his heart muscle and liver function were damaged.
After 4 days of symptomatic treatment such as diarrhea and heart protection, the child's consciousness gradually recovered.
Those who accidentally ate "slimming chocolate" and entered the hospital were 5-year-old Hunan boy Yangyang. After stealing 3 capsules, he appeared irritable, manic, non-stop talking, and could not sleep.
In September this year, The Modern Express learned from the First People's Hospital of Lianyungang City that the hospital had received four cases of children eating "slimming chocolate" by mistake. Fortunately, the treatment was timely, and the children were not in serious trouble.
And 6-year-old Fujian girl Xixi, hallucinating due to accidental eating, shouted "there is a snake in the house".
The "medical community" search found that in order to cover up the true identity of the "poison", sibutramine also frequently changed his vest and hid in candy, coffee, tea, and milkshakes.
After the beautification of the appearance and the use of life, people's vigilance against it has declined, hoping to use this weight loss shortcut to lose weight while eating.
When it enters the house, the bright, food-like packaging will undoubtedly increase the risk of misuse and misuse by children.

Taking the girl Tingting incident mentioned in the opening paragraph as an example, the police investigation found that the "slimming chocolate" he mistakenly took was purchased by his mother Li Mou from Cao somewhere on the Internet.
The police followed the vine to touch the melon, and quickly locked Cao's upper line Xia, Liu and others, and seized a large number of slimming capsules and chocolates. In the seized articles, the sibutramine component was detected.
Li Juan, a procurator at the Quanshan District People's Procuratorate in Xuzhou City, told CCTV News that the case involved 14 provinces and cities across the country and that 34 defendants had been prosecuted for producing toxic and harmful food.
Many of the people involved in the case are young women, and some people know that the "slimming chocolate" sold contains toxic and harmful ingredients, but still buy and sell it to others through the Internet.
According to Article 144 of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China, whoever mixes toxic or harmful non-food raw materials into the food produced or sold, or sells food that is knowingly mixed with toxic or harmful non-food raw materials, shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than five years and shall also be fined. Whoever causes serious harm to human health or has other serious circumstances shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than five years but not more than ten years and shall also be fined;
