The First Nursery School of Yan'an was established in October 1938, during the most difficult period of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, when countless revolutionaries threw themselves into the War of Resistance without sacrificing their homes, many of them with young children, who had no one to take care of them, so they had to entrust them to the villagers to take them in.
Even many revolutionary martyrs who died in the enemy-occupied areas, their descendants were also organized and sent to Yan'an, also facing the problem of no one to take care of them.
Therefore, at the initiative of Minister of Health Fu Lianzhang, on October 2, 1938, the First Hospital of the Wartime Children's Nursery in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region was officially established, that is, the First Nursery School of Yan'an.
However, just over a month later, the First Nursery School of Yan'an was moved to Ansai, and the central government decided to establish the Yan'an Central Nursery in Lanjiaping, Yan'an.
After the establishment of this nursery, Chairman Mao was the first to send his daughter Jiaojiao (Li Min) and personally inscribed the greetings for the nursery: "Long live the children" and "Study well and play well", showing Chairman Mao's tender and loving side.
The ugly boy Gang, the director of the nursery school played by Haiqing in "Ah Cradle", is not a screenwriter who made it up, but an "ugly mother" that many revolutionary posterity has been hanging on the lips.
Ugly Gang is a single mother with two children, the nursery for confidentiality and security considerations, the location is very remote, the children's daily food supply, need ugly Gang to climb the mountain and wade through the water for dozens of miles to carry.
The winter in Yan'an is extremely cold, the cold wind is howling, the ugly gang often falls, and what is even more worrying is that there will be hungry wolves from time to time on the way. Ugly Gang later said with emotion that if it was before, she would have been eaten by hungry wolves, but now she is shouldering the heavy responsibility of taking care of dozens of children, making her full of strength, and beating the hungry wolves away with wooden sticks again and again!
Because of the harsh material conditions, the children in the nursery are often sick and in very poor health, but there are not enough medicines and nutrients. These plights of the nursery school were spread to Soong Ching Ling and some patriotic democrats, who received many charitable donations through the appeal of the internationally influential "Alliance for the Defense of China", and batch after batch of food and medical supplies were delivered to Yan'an, saving many children.
As a token of appreciation for the assistance, The Central Nursery also changed its name to Los Angeles Daycare.
In 1946, Hu Zongnan led hundreds of thousands of troops to attack Yan'an, and the central government had to transfer, and Zhu Laozong and Kang Keqing, who had been pouring love into the nursery, personally inquired about the children's preparations for the transfer.
The child was so small that it was impossible to march on foot, and due to the conditions at that time, it could only be transported by mules and horses and donkeys, so Mr. Zhu tried his best to raise more mules and horses, and specially found Ke Qingyuan, a skilled craftsman in the army, and designed a "pack bed" for the children that was both strong and comfortable. Later, the mule team was bombed by enemy aircraft, and the horses fell off the cliff in fright, thanks to this sturdy "pack bed" that kept the children safe and sound.
On November 11, this "cradle army" on horseback finally set off, and before setting off, the director led all the conservationists to swear an oath:
"The adults are here, the children are there; the adults are gone, and the children must be there!"
Along the way, it was full of countless dangers, the planes of the Kuomintang army could appear at any time, and the horse team could only hide during the day and travel hard in the dark at night. The nurses ran back and forth, carefully guiding the mules, repeatedly checking the children's sleep, and helping them tuck in the quilt countless times to prevent the cold night wind from freezing the children.
However, they were still discovered by the enemy's planes, and on one occasion, the enemy planes began to strafe the horses, and the horses were in chaos, and the conservationists were desperately trying to drag the horses to the hiding place.
Suddenly, a horse was frightened and ran, accidentally fell off a cliff, the children on the bed cried loudly, the nurseryman Tian Xiying risked running over to see, although the bed rolled violently, but the bracket still firmly protected the children inside, which showed how thoughtful Mr. Zhu was in advance!
This child in distress was actually the child of the childcare worker Yao Shuping, who was still trying to protect other children and had no time to take care of her own children.

In April 1949, the central government organs entered Beijing, and the Los Angeles Nursery also went to Beijing, and the kindergarten directly under the Central Military Commission was established.
Most of these children later became the pillars of the country, and even many became members of the third generation of state leaders.
As for the "ugly mother" Ugly Zigang, he has been working in this nursery since 1938, and until his death in 1963, he worked for 25 years, never got married again, poured all his efforts into the children, and became the "ugly mother" that the children respected all their lives.
