On December 18th, under the guidance of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province and sponsored by the Guangdong Provincial Cultural Center (Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center), the third phase of the 2021 "In Guangdong" series of activities: "Zi Yan Hong - Lingnan Flower and Bird Painting Exhibition in the New Era" opened in the exhibition hall on the first floor of the Guangdong Provincial Cultural Center.
The works of 7 famous Lingnan flower and bird artists are exhibited
The exhibition is hosted by Liang Jiang, former deputy director of the National Art Museum of China, researcher of the National Art Museum of China, and director of the Institute of Modern and Contemporary Chinese Art of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and exhibits more than 40 lingnan flower and bird paintings in the new era, including Lin Lan, Zheng Apan, Pan Xiaoming, Xu Dunping, Huang Zhansheng, Xie Shaowei and Du Ning.
The works in this exhibition have a wide range of styles and themes, including subtle and rich brushwork and heavy colors, as well as pleasant ink freehand, trying to present the "plateau" and "peak" of Lingnan flower and bird painting art in the new era.

In the chinese flower and bird painting map, Lingnan occupies an important position. From the Ming Dynasty flower and bird paintings lin liang, the "two residences" in the mountain township to the "Lingnan school", all of you are familiar with flower and bird paintings. Liang Jiang said that in the most dynamic area on the map of reform and opening up in the new era, the Lingnan painting circle undertakes the national cultural tradition, and undertakes the mission of adapting to and meeting the growing spiritual demands of the broad masses of the people.
Keep the tradition of righteousness, create the new era
After the opening of the exhibition, the participating painters also held the "Lingnan Flower and Bird Painting Creation Sharing Meeting in the New Era" in the exhibition hall to introduce the inheritance and development process of Lingnan flower and bird painting to the general public, and to share the experience of "singing for the times and the people" in combination with their own works and creative experience.

"Lingnan flower and bird painting has come from the long river of thousands of years of pen and ink tradition, shouldering the responsibility of historical inheritance, but also inheriting the gene of innovation." Lin Lan, president of the Guangdong Academy of Painting, believes that "keeping the right" and "innovating" are two sides of the same coin, and "keeping the tradition and creating the new era" should become the responsibility of every Chinese painter.
Pan Xiaoming, a full-time painter at the Guangzhou Academy of Painting and director of the art museum, believes that painters can do things to be honest and innovative, inseparable from the exchange and interaction with the broad masses of the people, this exhibition to the public to popularize the basic aesthetic knowledge of Chinese painting, but also to give the painter the opportunity to directly dialogue with the audience, is conducive to broadening the possibility of Lingnan flower and bird painting in the new era.
As practitioners in the frontline of art education, Xu Dunping, associate professor of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, secretary and vice dean of the Chinese Academy of Painting, and Xie Shaowei, professor of South China Normal University, combined their own art education experience to discuss the experience of flower and bird painters in adhering to the right path and pursuing both virtue and art. Xu Dunping said that art education must start from the source and classics, and in the specific teaching and creation process, the sociality of the works and the connection between the times. "Painting is to be painted for everyone to see, and we must go into the people to get the nourishment of creation." Xie Shaowei shared.
Du Ning, a full-time painter at the Guangdong Academy of Painting, said that it is a painter's responsibility to express the vigorous and positive spirit and aesthetic taste of the new era through his works.
"We have the responsibility to make good use of the paintbrush in our hands to tell the story of China, the story of Guangdong, and the story of the Bay Area." Huang Zhansheng, director of the Rock Southern Art Museum, added.
