"Teachers are not a means of livelihood, like scientific research, a career worth fighting for a lifetime!" The party lesson taught by the academicians in this section is very heartfelt

"As Communist Party members who grew up in the era of peace, we are already very happy, there is no worry about life, there is no hunger, so what can we do for the country" "China's science and technology has gone from the stage of pursuing 'from 1 to 100' to the original stage of innovation from 'from 0 to 1'"...

On the afternoon of December 16th, with the theme of "Cherishing the 'Great Power of the Country', Building Dreams and Rejuvenating the Country through Science and Education", Li Jie, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of the School of Civil Engineering of Tongji University, gave a lecture entitled "The Scientific Spirit in the History of the Party", sharing with teachers and students his experience of learning the spirit of the plenary session, talking freely about the scientific spirit in his eyes, as well as the duties and missions of a party member scientific research worker and a party member teacher.

This lecture is also a special party lesson. Li Jie spoke eloquently, and many teachers and students were deeply shocked. Li Jie's faith also invisibly infected every listener on the scene.

Scientific research serves the country, and the heart of an academician is a child

"Scientists must first of all be patriotic, and they must take it as their duty to pursue the happiness of the people and promote social progress." Teaching in Tongji for thirty years, Li Jietao and Li were all over the world. Students studying in Tongji at different times talked about Li Jie, and what impressed li jie most was the scholar's sincere heart of serving the country.

Professor Chen Jianbing, deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Disaster Prevention in Civil Engineering at Tongji University, is one of Li Jie's students. What impressed him was that in June 2006, on the eve of Chen Jianbing's imminent study abroad, he and Li Jie went on a business trip to Beijing.

During the break, Li Jie took Chen Jianbing with him to Tiananmen Square. In the evening, strolling through the square, the teachers and students did not say a word. When standing in front of the Monument to the People's Heroes, Li Jie bowed to the monument three times. The silhouette of this scene under the setting sun made Chen Jianbing moved unceasingly. "This is called teaching by example, and many times, the teacher's teaching to the student does not even require language. From that moment on, I was determined to learn and serve the country. ”

When sharing his learning experience this time, Li Jie also said that when he traveled to Beijing on business, as long as he had time, he would go to visit the Monument to the People's Heroes. Perhaps related to the growth experience of the "post-50s" generation, born in New China, raised under the red flag, patriotism is carved in the bones. Every time he walks to the quiet and peaceful Tiananmen Square and looks at today's prosperity, Li Jie can't help but think that today's life is not easy to come by. Countless revolutionary martyrs bought their blood and lives.

This year is the centenary of the founding of the party, just as many post-90s and post-00s young people after watching the major revolutionary historical drama "The Age of Awakening", because of the sentence "Is there a sequel to 'The Age of Awakening'?" Today's happy life is! For Li Jie's generation of scholars, they often have such percussions and answers in their hearts: A generation has the mission of a generation, with the "great power of the country", vigorously carrying forward the spirit of science, committed to original innovation, science and education to serve the country and rejuvenate the country, which is the mission of contemporary scientific research workers.

Science is always only 0-1 innovation

"What is science?" It is to dare to be the first in the world! Li Jie's words are loud and clear: science will always only have 0 to 1 innovation. Whether a research work is valuable or not, first of all, depends on whether it has real scientific innovation.

So, how do you do innovative research? Li Jie believes that it is important to cultivate a scientific spirit, and it is necessary to "boldly hypothesize and carefully verify." ”

He couldn't help but tell the students about his own study history. During his Ph.D., every time he met with his supervisor, the supervisor had only one sentence - "Where is the New idea?" This experience profoundly influenced Li Jie's scientific research. "Later, when I did my own research, I asked this one: Is it really innovative?" In his view, the so-called innovation is the first to open up the atmosphere.

Researchers must sometimes have a sense of urgency that does not wait for me. "If you can get the wind first, you have to be faster than others." If you can open up the wind first, you have to torture yourself repeatedly, the basic concept can not stand? Therefore, to do scientific research, you also need to be calm, and you must have the determination to sit on the "cold bench".

Summarizing his scientific research experience, Li Jie said, it is "unremitting pursuit, long-term accumulation, and accidental learning." He introduced that when he was doing wind resistance research, he always observed the runway while walking, and finally one day he was inspired and proposed the concept of zero-point time of phase evolution.

Teaching in Tongji for many years, Li Jie's students have successively come out of the post-70s, post-80s, post-90s, and post-00s college students in the school.

"The most important thing in doing research is problem awareness." He sent a message to today's young students not only to have a solid scientific foundation and professional foundation, but also to have a strong humanistic foundation, not only to pay attention to practical problems, but also to learn to reflect and ask questions.

As a teacher, the most important thing is to love the students

In the mouths of the students, Li Jie is also a teacher and a father, and is a well-deserved good teacher. In Li Jie's view, he just did some of the things he should do. "As a teacher, the most important thing is to love your students. If a teacher doesn't love his students and thinks only of himself, he will never become a good teacher. In the lecture, in the face of the questions of teachers and students, Li Jie stood and answered the whole time.

Many years ago, a graduate of Li Jie's post spat bitterly at him after two years as a doctoral supervisor: "It's so hard to take a doctorate!" Li Jie heard this and asked, "Are you concerned about your three years or the thirty years of students?" Li Jie pointed out to the point that it is impossible for every student to be a genius, but if the teacher can fully understand the student, explore the students' points and inadequacies, love him, and care for him, then the students will be able to grow up very well. This speech drew a round of applause from the audience.

In fact, Li Jie said so, and even more so. As a teacher, he has always been concerned about the growth of his students. In Li Jie's bookcase, there are neatly stacked file boxes, which are the academic files he has built for each student. It contains not only the manuscript of the student's graduation thesis that he personally revised, but also a handwritten summary that records every time he communicates with the students face-to-face and discusses academic issues. In Li Jie's view, "the greatest happiness of being a teacher is to see your students surpass you."

So far, most of the 67 doctoral graduates under Li Jie's supervision have become the backbone of this field. It was under his influence that many students took to the podium and took over the baton of educating people, of whom 12 had been promoted to full professors and 2 had won the Outstanding Youth Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

"One move at a time, one word at a time." Ren Xiaodan told reporters that Li Jie not only "cut the details" in scientific research guidance, but also repeatedly advised on the eve of his stay in school: "Teachers are not a means of making a living, it is the same as scientific research, it is worth fighting for a lifetime." ”
