On March 10, 1991, Zhang Xueliang and Zhao Yidi, who had lost their freedom for more than half a century, finally left Taiwan to visit their relatives in the United States. In 1994, Mr. and Mrs. Zhang Xueliang left Taiwan and settled in Hawaii, where they began a truly free life.
On December 12, 1936, Zhang Xueliang personally escorted Chiang Kai-shek back to Nanjing, but Zhang Xueliang was subsequently placed under house arrest by Chiang Kai-shek.

Yang Hucheng lost control of the Northwest Army and was forced to go to Europe to "go abroad to investigate", after the July 7 Incident, Yang Hucheng repeatedly called to return to China to participate in the War of Resistance. In December 1937, he secretly returned to China and was arrested and placed under house arrest in Nanchang with his secretary and family. He has been held for 12 years thereafter.
On September 6, 1949, on the eve of the nationalist army abandoning Chongqing, Mao Renfeng was instructed by Chiang Kai-shek, and under his direct orders, Yang Hucheng, his young son Yang Zhengzhong, his young daughter Yang Zhenggui, his secretary Song Qiyun and his wife Xu Linxia, and their youngest son "Little Turnip Head" Song Zhenzhong, a total of 8 people, were stabbed to death with daggers by Yang Jinxing, Xiong Xiang, Wang Shaoshan, Lin Yongchang and four other military command agents at the Dai Gong Ancestral Hall in Chongqing, and the bodies were destroyed with glass and stirrup water.
On March 10, 1991, Zhang Xueliang and his wife Zhao Yidi went to the United States to visit relatives and end their seclusion. As the grandson of Yang Hucheng, Yang Han's first visit to Zhang Xueliang was a polite visit, which was to complete the last wish of his father Yang Zhengmin, Yang Zhengmin was relatively familiar with Zhang Xueliang when he was a teenager, before the Xi'an Incident, Zhang Xueliang and the Yang family had relatively close contacts, and Yang Zhengmin always wanted to see Zhang Xueliang before his death.
On June 6, 1999, at the entrance of a church in Hawaii, Yang Han took his daughter Yang to see Zhang Xueliang. Zhang Xueliang sat in a wheelchair, heard that Yang Han was a descendant of Yang Hucheng, and then said "hello, hello", and did not say anything again.
Such a reaction made Yang Han, who came from afar, a little unexpected, why was this century old man who dared to "poke the sky a hole" with his grandfather so calm when he saw him?
The following year, Yang Han went to Hawaii to attend Zhang Xueliang's 100th birthday. Yang Han went to the Hilton Hawaii Hotel where he was staying, and Zhang Lusu pushed Zhang Xueliang to the beach for a walk. But he still had no intention of talking.
Why didn't Zhang Xueliang want to mention Yang Hucheng and the Xi'an Incident? Yang Han was very confused, because the two families had a relationship, Yang Han went to the United States twice to see him, did not expect him to be so calm, Yang Han felt a little strange, from that moment Yang Han began to study this problem.
Yang Han said: At that time, Zhang Xueliang in front of me was indeed old. I felt that he felt that his grandfather's affair was a bit unbearable, so he was reluctant to talk about it. In his oral history, he lamented his grandfather's murder; in his "Reflections on the Xi'an Incident", he said that he was more influenced by his grandfather
