At the age of 68, Jia Liqun still adheres to the clinical frontline. In the ultrasound department of Beijing Children's Hospital, there are many parents who come to Jia Liqun every day to do B ultrasound for their children. Jia Liqun said: "I can't be sorry for the trust of these parents. I don't retire, and they can find me when they come to me for a checkup. ”

Jia Liqun is about 1.75 meters tall, emaciated, slow to speak, polite and thoughtful. The day before the meeting, the ultrasound team he led won the 2021 "Honor life and glory healer" gold medal team honor. This simple healer is a pioneer of Pediatric Ultrasound in China, and has won honorary titles such as "National Outstanding Communist Party Member" and "Model of the Times".

Treating diseases and saving people, Jia Liqun has always pursued pragmatism and perfection.

Giving a reliable diagnosis is only solid in his heart

In the 1980s, Beijing Children's Hospital took the lead in setting up a pediatric ultrasound room in the country, and Jia Liqun was sent to "pick the beam" because of his excellent work. At that time, Jia Liqun worked in the radiology department for 11 years, and his diagnosis was reliable and his reputation was good. And he has not even seen the ultrasound diagnostic instrument, how to work? But Jia Liqun is such a person, no matter which post he goes to, he will work hard without complaint.

Subsequently, he was sent to the 301 Hospital to study ultrasound, where he first saw the ultrasound diagnostic instrument. Jia Liqun repeatedly explored the image adjustment of the ultrasound diagnostic instrument, combined with the spectrum of pediatric diseases, read books, checked data, and explored pediatric ultrasound examination methods.

Later, it was found that the ultrasound high-frequency probe was applied to the abdomen of children, and the images obtained were clearer and more delicate, reflecting subtle lesions, and pediatric clinicians became more and more dependent on ultrasound examination. Pediatrics is jokingly called "dumb" because children, especially infants and young children, cannot express themselves and cry when they are uncomfortable. As soon as the child cries, there is more gas in the intestines. These gases are like fog, interfering with the ultrasound image, resulting in unclear or even invisible lesions, which can easily cause missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis.

Every time the child was examined for ultrasound, Jia Liqun was extremely careful and tried to improve the accuracy of diagnosis. "For me, if I look at 100 patients, misdiagnosing a child is only 1 percent of them, but for a family, every child is 100 percent."

Once, after Jia Liqun gave his child an ultrasound, the child was sent to the operating room. Jia Liqun also followed and observed in the operating room until more than two o'clock in the middle of the night. "One of me is to study, and the other is to worry about the patient. I want to see for myself the first time, whether the ultrasound diagnosis is correct or not. Seeing that the clinical results were consistent with my diagnosis, I felt solid. ”

Constantly pondering and accumulating experience, Jia Liqun soon became an expert in pediatric ultrasound, opened up the field of Chinese children's ultrasound, and became a "B super detective" in the hearts of parents.

In February 2008, Jia Liqun found dozens of cases of "kidney stones" in a row, and he and the clinician keenly found that these children had a history of Sanlu milk powder feeding, so they reported to their superiors. In September of the same year, the "Sanlu Milk Powder Incident" caused a sensation across the country. With the experience of ultrasonography of such children, Jia Liqun and clinical experts quickly formulated the "gold standard" for diagnosing "poisoned milk powder kidney stones".

Thirty years without lunch, just for the children to eat early

Everyone in the department knew that Jia Liqun never ate lunch. This habit is related to a misunderstanding 30 years ago.

At more than 4 p.m. one day, Jia Liqun was hungry and sweating in the clinic and quickly soaked a pack of instant noodles. Just after eating a few bites, a parent rushed into the consultation room, "caught" Jia Liqun "hiding" behind the curtain to eat instant noodles, and suddenly shouted loudly: My children are hungry here waiting for examination, you are a doctor, how can you eat here? Jia Liqun did not argue, put the instant noodles aside, and said: "Let the child come in, I will do it." ”

In fact, Jia Liqun did not care about eating that morning and noon, and worked for nearly 10 hours in a row. "But the parents didn't understand, and they trained me, and I was particularly aggrieved at the time." Jia Liqun recalled, "There is also guilt, the child is still hungry, and what I did is not very satisfactory." So I didn't explain anything at the time. ”

Since then, Jia Liqun has stopped eating lunch. "Children must have an empty stomach before doing abdominal ultrasound, and if I don't eat, they can eat it earlier." Jia Liqun said, "But I don't encourage young people in the department to do the same, after all, it is not a good habit." ”

Jia Liqun had promised 24-hour service and was always available. For decades, he had lived in a 44-square-meter house near the hospital, just a few minutes' walk to the department.

Over the years, there have always been parents who want to send red envelopes to Jia Liqun, but Jia Liqun never accepts them. Once, a parent forced money into his pocket and pushed it around to tear the pocket of Jia Liqun's white coat. Later, Jia Liqun simply sewed the mouth to death, and the nickname of "Doctor Of the Sewing Pocket" spread.

With children of unknown cause, parents came to Beijing from all over the world to find Jia Liqun, one after another. Jia Liqun never failed them. He said: "People trust you to come here, I don't want to reject them, I always want to fulfill their wishes, this is more complete, isn't it?" I can be in good health now, and as long as the hospital allows it, I will continue to do it. ”
