Shijiazhuang, 16 Dec (Xinhua) -- Although he has returned to the motherland for more than a year after finishing his medical work in Africa to aid foreign countries, Wang Junhui still receives requests for help from local people and overseas Chinese through mobile phones from time to time.

Wang Junhui, 56, is the director of the Logistics Service Center of the Hebei Provincial Health Commission. Wang Junhui has twice gone to Africa to carry out foreign medical assistance missions and forged a deep friendship with the African people.

In May last year, when the COVID-19 epidemic spread around the world, Wang Junhui returned to the China-Congo Friendship Hospital in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and local doctors and friends greeted him with cheers: "Old friends, you are here, we are relieved." ”

"At that moment, I was most touched, realizing my pride as a Chinese doctor and the burden on my shoulders." Wang Junhui said.

In June 2016, Wang Junhui, as the leader of China's 17th batch of medical teams to aid the Democratic Republic of the Congo(DRC), led 17 team members to assist the Democratic Republic of the Congo for two years.

In May 2020, Wang Junhui, as the head of China's anti-epidemic medical expert group, carried out anti-epidemic work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Congo (Brazzaville), Sao Tome and Principe.

The anti-epidemic expert group was established by the National Health Commission, and the Hebei Provincial Health Commission selected 12 members, covering respiratory, laboratory, critical care, imaging, hospitalization, nursing, public health and other professions.

"I have worked in Africa, I am familiar with it, and I have feelings, so I go to the most suitable place." Talking about the retrograde journey of Wanli to help Africa again, Wang Junhui said that he took the initiative to ask Him to go to Africa.

Poor medical facilities and lack of supplies are problems shared in both aides to Africa. "When I first came this time, I was a little anxious after seeing the local testing situation and the treatment environment." Wang Junhui said that the new crown virus is highly contagious, but the detection capacity of the three countries is weak and the error is large, and the local medical staff only has basic protection such as simple isolation gowns and masks.

In the past month, the expert group has visited local medical institutions and designated hospitals for covid-19 treatment, held anti-epidemic exchange meetings with relevant institutions, and put forward reasonable epidemic prevention and control suggestions based on China's experience and local actual conditions.

Bian Dong, a doctor at Hebei Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is one of the members of the expert group, and his mission is to bring the experience of traditional Chinese medicine in the fight against the epidemic to Africa.

Bian Dong said that the local people's understanding of Chinese medicine is mostly limited to acupuncture and massage, and there is little understanding of Chinese medicine in the prevention and treatment of new crown pneumonia. To this end, he adjusted the training content in a timely manner, focusing on the use of facts and data to show the role of Chinese medicine in China's epidemic prevention, which was recognized by local medical staff for the fight against the epidemic of Chinese medicine.

Despite the severe challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the expert group visited 26 medical institutions in the three countries, conducted 84 training sessions, and trained 1,413 medical and health personnel.

"We want to introduce as much of our covid-19 experience to our African counterparts as possible, so every minute is precious." Wang Junhui said, "The local case screening and clinical diagnosis and treatment work has been significantly improved. When I first arrived in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the local nucleic acid testing capacity was less than 100 cases a day, and the testing capacity had reached more than 600 cases when leaving. ”

Wang Junhui's Chinese medical expert group is a microcosm of China's medical aid to Africa. In 1963, China sent the first Chinese medical team to Algeria, creating a history of new China's medical aid to Africa. In the past 58 years, China has sent a total of 23,000 medical team members to Africa and treated 230 million patients.

A group of Chinese medical teams have braved hardships to go to Africa to carry out international cooperation and dedication, and have won the praise and recognition of the local people. Wang Junhui said that when they left, the local children presented a Chinese folk song "Jasmine" as a thank you, which touched them.

"Great love spans thousands of miles, and more than 50 years of medical aid to Africa have built a bridge of friendship for the Chinese and African people and demonstrated the dedication of Chinese doctors." Wang Junhui said.
