Toyota is really about to start a pure electric war, and it is aimed at brands from Tesla to affordable electric vehicles.

On December 14, 2021, Toyota held a pure electric vehicle conference, and President Akio Toyoda posed 17 pure electric models behind him, 15 of which were brand new products, and also announced a series of figures and plans that shocked the world.
Here are the most prominent points:
By 2030, a total of 8 trillion yen (equivalent to 448 billion yuan) will be invested in technology research and development and equipment, of which 4 trillion yen (equivalent to 224 billion yuan) will be used in the field of pure electric power;
Toyota plans to sell 2 million pure electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles worldwide every year by 2030 in May this year, and now raises its target to 3.5 million per year;
Toyota plans to launch a total of 30 pure electric new cars by 2030, and this time brings 17 pure electric vehicles, namely e-Palette, bZ4X and 15 new models, and 15 models we will introduce below;
Lexus will transform into a pure electric brand, achieving 100% pure electrification in China, North America and Europe in 2030, with annual sales of 1 million vehicles worldwide, and pure electrification in the world in 2035;
In 2035, Toyota will achieve carbon neutrality;
Whether it is Lexus becoming a pure electric brand, or significantly increasing the sales target of pure electric vehicles, outlining the lineup of 30 pure electric models, and smashing down nearly 450 billion yuan to develop electrification technology, it is enough to shock outsiders and Internal Toyota employees.
In December last year and September this year, Akio Toyoda was put on the hat of "opposing pure electric" because of his remarks against the total ban on the sale of fuel vehicles in Japan, and this time in front of 15 new pure electric vehicles, I am afraid that doubters will not be able to say anything.
Toyota is not a PPT car, will not come up with a model to fool people. And if you look closely at these 15 new cars, you will find that Toyota has long planned to arrange pure electric vehicle products in the entire lineup.
How many pure electric vehicles has Toyota brought this time? There are 17 models on location because there are e-Palette and bZ4X; Akio Toyoda has 16 models behind the stage because there is bZ4X. 1、bZ Small Crossover
bZ small crossover SUV. According to Akio Toyoda, this is the smallest model in the bZ series. The interior is in a comfortable style and is oriented to the European and Japanese markets. Expected to resemble the current C-HR.

2、bZ Compact SUV
bZ compact crossover SUV. Although the name is "compact", Akio Toyoda used "medium-sized" to describe it at the press conference. That is to say, the electric SUV will be similar to the current RAV4 Boom and Lingfang/Weissa Harrier, with a medium-sized platform (this generation of RAV4 and Harrier are ga-K medium platforms, not GA-C compact car platforms).
Akio also deliberately emphasized that it has a "beautiful silhouette", so we think it is closer to LingFang/Weisa Harrier than RAV4 Rongfang. It should be pointed out that the newer the generation, the more consumers have a more acceptance of the cross-border design of the slippery back, similar to tesla's entire series of SUVs are slippery designs. Therefore, in the years when bZ becomes the backbone of Toyota's sales, mainstream SUV design will be closer to the current Lingfang/Weisa Harrier.

Lexus electric sedan. The form factor is more sporty, sci-fi and personalized than the current ES, and is expected to be Lexus' prediction of mainstream design trends around 2025. The current radical design may evolve into the mainstream by then.
The car will also be the main sales force in the Era of Lexus Electric Vehicles.

Lexus electric SUV. If the Lexus RZ is equivalent to today's RX, then this electric SUV will be equivalent to today's LX. Although its size cannot be judged at a glance, visual inspection, coupled with the rectangular shape of the board, is easy to think of a large SUV like the LX.

Medium-sized box car. The "box car" is a model unique to the Japanese domestic market. Small electric SUV. This model Toyota has not yet given a detailed description, according to the ABBR of the SU letter, it should be Sport Utility Sport Multi-purpose, that is, the first two letters of the SUV. But the reason for emphasizing these two letters is because the car may be more spacey, more rigid, and more functional than the small crossover SUV above.

After looking at the above lineup, is it possible to find: in addition to the alpha and other medium and large MPV (MPV because of the shape of the wind resistance coefficient, not very suitable for pure electric, Toyota may be out of this consideration, temporarily did not come up with pure electric MPV, but there are also Lantu, Chase and other brands to launch pure electric MPV), almost all the current main sales models of Toyota and Lexus brands can find the corresponding pure electric version.
In other words, this reinforces the possibility that Toyota's lineup is not bluffing.
In fact, although Toyota has not paid too much attention to pure electric vehicles for a long time, it does not mean that it is completely opposed to pure electric routes. As early as 1992, Toyota began to test the water of pure electric products. In 2016, it also established an electric vehicle joint venture with parts suppliers and other Japanese car companies.
When Toyota really considered the full series of pure electrification, that is when this giant with traditional colors began to turn around.
There will be voices questioning: these pure electric vehicles are not as cool as the products of the new forces, and the competitiveness may not be outstanding.
However, it should be noted that even in the Chinese market, the consumer group must be more mainstream than the pioneer group, and quality, reliability and safety will still be the highest weight of the vast majority of users. Toyota and Volkswagen are betting that "the mainstream population will not change so quickly", while the new forces are betting on "starting from the pioneer crowd to attract customers and gradually guiding the mainstream population".
Toyota China Chairman and General Manager Tatsuro Ueda has said that at present, Toyota's bZ pure electric series models have planned 7 models, of which 5 will be introduced to the Chinese market in the future. In terms of pure electric segments, by 2025, Toyota and Lexus will have 10 new cars in China.
A Toyota that uses all its strength cannot be underestimated.
Not to mention the advantages of "full-cycle carbon emissions", Toyota is in the hands of the hand in advance, what new policies will come out after the "double integral", I think the general direction has gradually become clear.
Then, the relationship between Toyota, Volkswagen and the new forces will be "both confrontation and complementarity" to a certain extent, and the battle in the car market at that time is really wonderful.
