"We also want to have such a big factory." In December 1949, when Mao Zedong visited stalin's automobile factory in the Soviet Union, he said this to his entourage.
At the beginning of the founding of New China, a hundred wastes were waiting to be rebuilt and a hundred industries were waiting to be lifted. Automobile is the symbol of industrial civilization, and the automobile industry has a strong pulling effect on the national economy and manufacturing industry. Therefore, the Party Central Committee put the establishment of a new Chinese automobile industry on the agenda, and listed the construction of a modern automobile manufacturing plant as one of the 156 key projects during the "First Five-Year Plan" period.

In 1953, Comrade Mao Zedong issued the "Instruction of the CPC Central Committee on Striving to Build the Changchun Automobile Factory in Three Years" and personally inscribed "Commemoration of the Foundation Laying of the First Automobile Factory". On July 15, FAW laid the foundation stone in the expectation of the whole country.

Concentrate on doing great things and use the strength of the whole country to support FAW construction. 10,000 builders from 28 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions across the country, including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and Shandong, gathered in Changchun. Jilin Province even gave full support to FAW to build the plant, and when the construction project was at its most tense, the cadres of Changchun City, students of colleges and middle schools, and soldiers of the army formed a voluntary labor force of more than 30,000 people to support the construction of the automobile plant.

In only 3 years, the first domestic automobile in New China was born in this black land.
On July 13, 1956, FAW was completed and put into operation, and the first domestic automobile in New China, the "Jiefang" brand truck, was successfully rolled off the production line, ending the history of New China's inability to manufacture cars.

Two years later, the first car in New China, Dongfeng Car, and the first high-end car, Hongqi Car, rolled off the production line in the same year, opening the road of Chinese's own production of cars.
