In China's modern history, the Japanese invasion of China is a pain that China cannot forget. In the face of national disasters, a large number of outstanding generals emerged in the 14-year War of Resistance, and Tang Enbo was one of them, legendary and controversial. Tang Enbo was a close general under Chiang Kai-shek, a mainstay of the Kuomintang's anti-Japanese resistance, and a small number of famous anti-Japanese generals who were tabooed by the Japanese army.
In the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Liu Bei told Zhuge Liang on his deathbed that Ma Mo and his people should not be reused. In modern history, Li Zongren also told Chiang Kai-shek that Tang Enbo was not a reusable person. Could it be that Tombaugh also had no military talent in vain? What about the Tang Boqi people? Why did Tombaugh die on the Operating Table in Japan?
"Little Zhuge Ge" Tang Enbo
Tang Enbo, whose original name was Tang Keqin, was born in 1900 in a small village called Tangcun in Wuyi County, Jinhua City, Zhejiang Province. In 1921, at the age of 21, Tang Enbo decided to travel east to Japan to study. In 1926, after graduating from the Japanese Army Non-Commissioned Officer School, he devoted himself to the front line of the War of Resistance. Tang Enbo commanded many large and small anti-Japanese battles, such as the Battle of Taierzhuang, the Battle of Xuzhou, and the Battle of Suizao, which we are familiar with. Among them, the famous Battle of Taierzhuang, also known as the Great Victory of Taierzhuang, was the greatest victory won by the Chinese military and people since the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, annihilating more than 20,000 enemy troops, severely losing the vigor of the Japanese army, and strengthening the determination of the Chinese military and people to fight with one heart and one mind.
In this battle, Tombaugh's contribution is indelible. He accurately predicted that the Japanese army would adopt a two-sided encirclement tactic, so he immediately decided to transfer his troops, turned passive into active, and came to a counter-encirclement, forcing the enemy to retreat to Taierzhuang to suppress it. World War I became famous, and Tang Enbo became famous as "Little Zhuge Ge" with his ingenious way of fighting.
However, Tombaugh's performance during the Liberation War was not satisfactory. History repeats itself, but the protagonist is not Tombaugh. In the Battle of Menglianggu, the East China Field Army, the main force of our army, surrounded and annihilated the 74th Division Corps, the head of the five main forces of the Kuomintang army, thus turning the situation in East China into a safe situation, but Tang Enbo delayed the fighter planes because of his inability to advance, causing heavy losses to the Nationalist army.
"Water drought locust soup" Tombaugh
In 1938, the front was in danger, and in order to prevent the Japanese invasion of China from advancing westward, Chiang Kai-shek ordered the blowing up of the Yellow River embankment at the mouth of the garden. The rushing down of the Yellow River, which broke its banks, did hinder the pace of the Japanese army's westward advance, but it also caused floods in the Henan region to rage, affecting innocent people.
Four years later, the Henan region was hit by drought and locust plagues. Multiple calamities were inflicted in the ancient Central Plains, so that the people of Henan were hungry, complained, and lived and died.
To make matters worse, when the 31st Army led by Tang Enbo was stationed in Henan, he not only did not sympathize with the people's feelings, but on the contrary asked the people of Henan to provide the troops with free drive, so that they could dig trenches, cook, and even frantically eat the people like locusts that did not grow in grass, and loot military expenses. Such bad deeds made Tombaugh win another nickname, "Water Drought Locust Soup". The water has left traces, the geese have left a sound, these natural disasters and man-made disasters have actually occurred to the people of Henan, and the pain of the people is unknown, but fortunately, we can still glimpse a glimpse from some film history.
Selling a teacher for glory leads to ruin
Although Zhang Enbo's practice of knocking on the bones and sucking the marrow of the people made many people dissatisfied with him, and even Meng Lianggu's missed fighter plane in the First World War led to the killing of a senior Kuomintang general, Zhang Lingfu, Chiang Kai-shek was furious about this, and beat him with his cane and covered in blood, so there was a lot of resentment inside and outside. But what really stigmatized him was his most despised betrayal of the teacher's glory.
The time goes back to 1920, after Tang Enbo graduated from the Wutang, he became a subordinate of Chen Yi, who was then the commander of the 1st Division of the Zhejiang Army, thus forming a fate. During the outbreak of the Zhifeng War in 1922, Tang Enbo germinated the idea of going east to Japan to study, so Tang Enbo presented Chen Yi with a letter of self-recommendation, in which he earnestly said that he was eager to go to Japan to learn advanced military technology in order to repay the motherland, helpless to economic difficulties, and pleaded with Chen Yi for support.
After returning from his studies in Japan, Tang Enbo changed his name from Tang Keqin to Tang Enbo because he was grateful for Chen Yi's charcoal in the snow. Later, he worshiped Chen Yi as his mentor, recognized Chen Yi as a dry father, and also married Chen Yi's righteous queen Jinbai Xi, and found a beautiful flower. The relationship between the two is getting deeper and deeper, and it can be said that Tang Enbo can rise step by step in the Kuomintang, and his mentor Chen Yi is indispensable.
In 1949, when the Kuomintang and the Communists were in the final battle, the Nationalist army was gradually defeated, the people's hearts were turned back, and the building would fall. Chen Yi was ready to abandon the dark and surrender to the light, surrender to our army, and also gave Tang Enbo a letter of rebellion. Unexpectedly, Tang Enbo replied with a full mouth of promises, but secretly forwarded the letter to Chiang Kai-shek. Although Tang Enbo pleaded for Chen's life, he was ultimately unable to return to heaven, and eventually his mentor Chen Yi was arrested and shot.
Since then, his wife Wang Jinbai has also severed contact with him, leaving only his fourth daughter Tang Guoli alone in Taiwan, and he and other children have gone to the United States to earn some living resources by working every day. Ironically, Tang Enbo's betrayal of the teacher and his quest for glory did not succeed in his wish to add officials to Jinlu, but instead he was saddled with a lifetime of infamy.
In 1954, Tang Enbo suffered from stomach disease and went to Japan for treatment, but he died on the operating table in a foreign country without thinking of surgical errors. After Tombaugh's death, his wife and daughter's life also suffered repeatedly. And because of the implication, his wife Wang Jinbai and daughter who fled the United States also lived in poverty, coupled with many languages and cultures in different places, and their lives were extremely poor.
Tang Enbo, a famous anti-Japanese general who has repeatedly accomplished great feats, a moth officer who has encroached on the people, and a vile villain who sells his teachers for glory, is complex and changeable, and it is difficult to make a proper evaluation of such a person, perhaps a hero created by the times. But the war was tragic for everyone, and the heroic and fearless sacrifices of the predecessors were exchanged for today's peace and tranquility. May the people be free from the pain of war, world peace, and the years will remain.
