Two Hunan people fought in Zhejiang, one led 1500 people to fight against the other 43 regiments!

Zhejiang was the hometown of Chiang Kai-shek, Hu Zongnan and others, but interestingly, around 1937, it became a battlefield for two Hunan people to fight.

Which two Hunan people?

One was Liu Jianxu, the last "commander-in-chief" of the Xiang Army and the Kuomintang General in Hunan who also held the most troops.

One was Su Yu, commander of the Advancing Division of the Red Army.

How did two Hunan people run to Zhejiang to compete? In 1935, after the defeat of the Red Tenth Army at Huaiyu Mountain in Anhui, Su Yu led hundreds of people to successfully jump out of the enemy's encirclement, and finally ran to western Zhejiang and established a guerrilla zone. What about Liu Jianxu? In October 1936, he was transferred from Hunan to Zhejiang as the director of the Kuomintang's Fujian-Zhejiang-Gansu Border Region, specifically in charge of the "suppression of the Communists" in Zhejiang.

The "communists" in Zhejiang that Liu Jianxu wanted to suppress were mainly the Advancing Division of the Red Army led by Su Yu.

In order to eliminate Su Yu in one fell swoop, Liu Jianxu personally served as the commander-in-chief of the "Qing Suppression" and mobilized 6 divisions, 2 independent brigades, and local security regiments, a total of 43 regiments, about 100,000 people. Although Su Yu claimed to be a division, in fact, there were only 1500 people, and the strength was only one regiment.

The ratio of strength between the two men was 1 to 43.

First of all, Liu Jianxu adopted a dragnet-style propulsion method to encircle and annihilate Su Yu. Su Yu did not give in, and in January 1937, he took the initiative to launch the Battle of Fengwen and counterattacked the enemy in front of him.

Fengwen is a village in Taishun County, in the center of Suyu's base area, the terrain is dangerous. Liu Jianxu is 4 regiments. As a result, the two armies fought fiercely for a day and a night, with casualties on each other, and finally formed a situation of confrontation between their own dangers.

As soon as Liu Jianxu's reinforcements arrived, Su Yu might fall into an encirclement. Su Yu was not stupid and decided to fight a quick decision. It just so happened that the reconnaissance platoon learned that there was only one regiment of the Fujian Security Regiment in Dadongshan, and its combat effectiveness was relatively weak. Su Yu immediately decided to concentrate his forces on eating the security regiment.

At this time, it was already the second half of the night, and he ordered a small number of troops to confuse, contain, and block the enemy in front of Feng Wenling, and he led the main force to quietly withdraw from the battle and detour to DadongShan.

Before dawn, Su Yu suddenly appeared in Dadongshan, and the main force engaged the security regiment, and by the morning a regiment of the enemy was completely annihilated.

Liu Jianxu immediately sent troops to chase after him, but unexpectedly, Su Yu's troops disappeared and could not be found.

Liu Jianxu ordered all the departments to look for the main force of Su Yu's division. Just at this time, Luo Liansheng, commander of the Southern Zhejiang Military Subdistrict, was arrested and defected, and confessed the location of su Yu and the main force of the advancing division. Liu Jianxu immediately mobilized his troops to launch a large-scale attack on Ruian, Pingyang, Taishun, and Fuding.

The situation was very grim, and Su Yu decided not to fight hard, immediately broke through, and led the main force to break through the blockade line and return to western Zhejiang.

In response to Liu Jianxu's "big dragnet" tactic, Su Yu adopted the method of fighting against the enemy and changing places. The enemy's big "net" was pulled over, and he and the soldiers skillfully drilled through, and then divided the main force of the division into small and scattered combat units, sometimes dozens of people, sometimes more than a dozen people, and even a few people moved, fighting for themselves and drilling out of the encirclement.

Once, Su Yu led a guerrilla force that was compressed and surrounded by the enemy in a twenty- or thirty-mile-long triangle. Suddenly they went south, then north, circled in circles, killed back the horse guns, marched 90 kilometers a day and night, fought 7 battles in a row, and then rushed out of the encirclement.

On another occasion, Su Yu and other enemies forced themselves to reach the Feiyun River in southern Zhejiang and had to risk swimming downstream to cross the river. As soon as Su Yu got out of the water, he was swept into the vortex. He struggled hard, turned three or four circles but still couldn't draw out, and when he saw that he was about to be swept by the vortex to the center and sink down, the warriors behind him were in a hurry, stretched out an umbrella, and Su Yu quickly grabbed it and took advantage of the situation to get out of the whirlpool.

They got rid of the enemy again.

Although Liu Jianxu had a large number of 43 regiments, he could not catch a single Su Yu, and he was so angry that he scolded his mother and even dismissed several regimental commanders.

While the two sides were competing, the Lugou Bridge Incident broke out. The situation has changed.

At this time, Su Yu had lost contact with his superiors for many years, and in September, news came from Jin (Hua) Qu (Zhou) from time to time, some saying: "The Kuomintang and the Communist Party have cooperated", some saying: "The Communist Party has surrendered", and others saying: "The Red Army has been absorbed". Opinions vary, and it is difficult to distinguish between true and false. One day, Su Yu brought Liu Hengyun in and whispered a few words to him.

The next day, Liu Hengyun took a platoon dressed in the uniform of the Nationalist Army and came to the Xikou Town Office in Longquan County. A man who looked like an inspector greeted him, smiled and asked, "Which department are you from, where are you from, and what are your tasks?"

Liu Hengyun looked up and replied, "We came out to suppress the Communists, I am a company commander, and on the orders of my superiors, I have urgent matters to contact the county government."

The other party did not dare to be sloppy, and quickly called the county government for him. Liu Hengyun took the telephone, played an official tone, and asked in a humming voice: "The newspaper said that Zhu and Mao's Red Army surrendered.

The phone immediately replied: "No more calls, no more calls!" Now that the Communists have cooperated in resisting Japan, Chairman Chiang Kai-shek has issued an order to the whole country to resist the war of resistance. The communist army was reorganized into the Eighth Route Army and was under the command of the chairman of the committee. ”

Subsequently, the Provisional Provincial Committee of the Cpc Fujian and Zhejiang Border sent a telegram to Liu Jianxu to "stop the civil war and continue to resist Japan." Liu Jianxu first tried to recruit Su Yu and others, and the negotiations broke down, but within a few days, forced by the advent of the anti-Japanese upsurge, he had to personally write to the Provisional Provincial Committee of the CPC Fujian-Zhejiang Border Region to demand that the negotiations be resumed. As a result, the two sides reached a cooperative anti-Japanese agreement on September 16.

However, before Su Yu could see Liu Jianxu, Liu Jianxu ran away and went to Shanghai to resist the Japanese as commander of the Tenth Army. Later, he met with the provincial chairman, Huang Shaohu. Huang Shaohu heard that Su Yu was from Hunan and said in a loud voice:

"I can't imagine that you and Director Liu are both from Hunan!" The two Xiang people actually fought in Zhejiang Province, and the misunderstanding was purely a historical misunderstanding. ”

Soon, Su Yu led his troops into the New Fourth Army, and also joined the ranks of the War of Resistance.
