After the defeat at Sanchuankou, the Northern Song Dynasty immediately adjusted the military deployment of the Song and Xia sides. A group of more capable ministers were sent to the frontier to preside over the defense of Xia; at the same time, emissaries were sent to Qinghai to contact the Qingtang chieftains; and the treasury was opened to supplement Shaanxi's military supplies with 100,000 yuan each from Zuozang and Neizang. At the same time, Song Renzong decided to change the defensive position and take the offensive, preparing to take the initiative against Xia.
Three of the more capable ministers were sent to Shaanxi. Xia Zhen, who was appeased by the qinfeng road margin in the former Jingyuan, was appointed as the envoy of Shaanxi Capital, and also a slight pacification envoy. Two of the new ministers, Han Qi and Fan Zhongyan, served as Xia Chen's deputies, and were responsible for the defense of Jingyuan Road (in present-day Pingliang, Gansu) and Yanyan Road (in present-day Yan'an, Shaanxi).
It can be said that these two pairs and three managers are all masters of the world, and they can pull out one at will.
After the Battle of Sanchuankou, the defense of Yanzhou was in a mess. Fan Zhongyan was appointed to preside over the defense of Yanyan Road. After he arrived in Yanzhou, he immediately assigned 18,000 soldiers to six generals, and when there was a battle, he would attack the enemy and if there was no battle, he would step up training. At the same time, it organized border residents to repair the walled city and strengthen the defense. In August 1041, the attack recaptured Kinmen Village, rebuilt Jinming Village, and restored the military defense of the important town of Yanzhou.
Han Qi, this person, may be more powerful. Whether it is domestic or diplomatic, he can make wonderful achievements. The key is that Fan Zhongyan can be reused by the imperial court, because Han Qi is righteous. On the Issue of Western Xia, Han Qi was an extremely hard-liner who advocated a decisive attack and a rapid attack.
However, the problem arises.
Han Qi advocated fighting, while Fan Zhongyan advocated defending. In order to paralyze the Song army, Li Yuanhao once asked Fan Zhongyan to "please peace". However, it is not good to serve people with virtue here in the party. Therefore, Fan Zhongyun had a bit of a bookish view at this time. This set the stage for the subsequent fiasco.
Fan Zhongyan and Han Qi argued. At this time, Xia Chen, as the general person in charge of the Shaanxi Theater, should be able to say a word. He either said to fight, and then "from Jingyuan and Yanyan to discuss", which was Han Qi's opinion; or he said to defend, reorganize the border army, build a fortress, and then move with the camera, which was Fan Zhongyan's opinion. However, Xia Chen, the commander, was reluctant to make a decision, but sent Han Qi and Yin Su back to Beijing to consult with the two governments, and handed over the decision-making power to Song Injong and Chaotang.

So, is this all Xia Zhen pretending to be a grandson and not daring to take responsibility? It can only be said that there are 50% of the factors, but there are still 50% of the factors that are the power operation of the Northern Song Dynasty.
The problem of the front-line manager's inability to monopolize power has long existed. This is not only the institutional requirement of the Northern Song Dynasty, but also the official norm of the Northern Song Dynasty. The emperor and the imperial court had already decided to take the initiative, and also determined the time to take the initiative. However, Fan Zhongyan still disagreed and refused to send troops on time.
The imperial court has spoken, so Xia Chun should have ordered Fan Zhong to attack, right? Even if Fan Zhongyan is stubborn, does he dare to argue with the imperial court?
He really dared. Xia Chun sent Yin Su to urge Fan Zhongyan to send troops, but Fan Zhongyan refused. Xia Chun wrote to the imperial court and asked the imperial court to urge Fan Zhongyan to send troops. Xia Chen's letter went straight to the heavenly court and was placed on Song Renzong's table. This is the divine operation of the Song Dynasty monarchs.
Strategic issues can either not be settled; First, there was a discussion about sending troops or not sending troops, and then there was a discussion about when to send troops. Fan Zhongyan certainly could not resist the resolutions of the two governments and the emperor's will, but he could say that he gave them all to me and so on. Emperor Gaozong of the Southern Song Dynasty ordered Yue Fei to retire from the army, you don't care if you are right or wrong, first of all, why you have to use twelve gold medals to invite Yue Fei back. If the efficiency is enough, one is enough, can you use twelve?
In February 1041, Li Yuanhao of Western Xia led an army of 100,000 to the south to attack the Song.
At this time, there was no need for the Song Dynasty monarchs to tangle, and the Western Xia people took the initiative to attack. Whether you want to fight or not, this battle is definitely going to be fought. However, the initiative on the battlefield was in the hands of the Western Xia.
Li Yuanhao ambushed the main Force of Western Xia at Haoshuichuan (haoshuichuan, in present-day Longde, Ningxia), and then attacked Huaiyuan (present-day Xijidong, Ningxia). This was Li Yuanhao's usual trick, pretending to attack important towns and waiting for reinforcements to be annihilated. The Battle of Sanchuankou in Yanzhou was fought in this way.
The direction of Li Yuanhao's assault this time was Jingyuan Road. Why not Yan yan road? The direction of Yanzhou is indeed the closest, and the battlefield is open, suitable for cavalry attack. However, Fan Zhongyan was too powerful, much stronger than his predecessor Fan Yong. Therefore, in the direction of Yanzhou, Li Yuanhao had no chance at all. Therefore, the Western Xia army rushed to the Jingyuan Road where Han Qi was located.
Han Qi, seeing the move, immediately ordered Ren Fu, deputy commander of the Huanqing Horse Infantry Army, to lead tens of thousands of troops from Huanzhou to join the Zhenshu army (治院, in present-day Guyuan, Ningxia), take the road to Huaiyuan, Deshengzhai, and Yangmulong City, and then attack the rear of the Western Xia army. The purpose was to cooperate with the Jingyuan Road.
However, the Song army had already lost strategically. Because Li Yuanhao's attack on Huaiyuan and threats to Jingyuan were only a bluff, ambushing troops and waiting for reinforcements from the Song Dynasty was the purpose of the war.
Han Qi is a personal master. Moreover, this man is very courageous. This time he was going to play big. You Li Yuanhao did not dare to attack Fan Zhongyan's Yanlu Road, but you dared to attack my Jingyuan Road. That's why you didn't treat me like a dish. Then I will be tough with you, I am in charge of my territory, and I must just go back to you. When you retreat, Ren Fu's army will definitely complete the interspersure, and then let you have no return.
However, the strategy has failed. Jingyuan hard gang is no longer important. What is important is that Ren Fu's tens of thousands of troops have been targeted by Li Yuanhao. Xia Zhen didn't have to worry about Li Yuanhao waiting for the annihilation reinforcements? The lessons of the defeat of Mikawaguchi are still vividly remembered. Han Qi was definitely worried, and he was also prepared.
He made two designs for RenFu:
One is to determine the marching route. After inserting from Guyuan to Huaiyuan, it detoured from Victory Village and Yangmulong City. The advantage of this is that there are Song army border villages at each point of the march, and they are about forty miles away. If you enter, grain and pay will be convenient, and if you retreat, you will stick to the border village.
One is to determine the combat mission. "If the situation is not negotiable, then set up an ambush according to the danger, and wait for it to be invited to attack." The task of Ren Fu's troops was to intercept, not to take the initiative. The direction of Jingyuan is definitely no problem, Li Yuanhao can't attack it, and he will definitely retreat. After retiring, you must expand the results of the battle, and then you will attack again.
Things are often ideal and full, but the reality is not only backbone but also cruel.
Ren Fu had fought a victorious battle, and once swept away the accounts of 41 clans of the party members in a surprise attack. It is precisely because he has won a battle, and after winning a battle, he is promoted, so this guy is particularly aggressive. He actually tampered with the marching route determined by the main general Han Qi. This was the operation of power on the part of the Song Dynasty, Fan Zhongyan could not listen to the commander Xia Chen, and Ren Fu could also not listen to the main general Han Qi, and fight as much as he wanted.
It was supposed to detour to the west and move to Huaiyuan, but Ren Fu killed directly from Guyuan to the southwest and plunged headlong into Liupan Mountain. Why did Ren Fu do this? Because you want to kill the thief and make a contribution.
On February 13, Ren Fu's leading troops arrived at the Dragon River (帓龙川, in present-day xiji county, northeast of the city). By this time, the Zhenrong army was already engaged in battle with the Western Xia army at Zhangyi Fort (張義堡, in present-day Guyuan, Ningxia). Therefore, Ren Fu immediately led his troops to reinforcements. This is not a roundabout westward advance, but a direct southward march. The Western Xia army could not be defeated, and thousands of Xia troops became the ghosts of the Song army.
Seeing that the battle was going well, Ren Fu immediately forgot Han Qi's instructions and pre-war design, but threw away the heavy and lightly armored pursuit. After arriving at Haoshuichuan, the Song army had become the end of the crossbow, and the grain and grass in the rear could not be picked up.
On February 14, Ren Fu's troops had entered the Liupan Mountains. The army was stationed in two parallel valleys. The valleys are miles apart and the river flows through them. This is the good water river. After continuous pursuit, the Song army was exhausted.
The Song army traveled west along the river and tried to meet the army at Kawaguchi. At the confluence of the Haoshui River and the Hulu River, the Song army pioneer found several mud boxes, and the boxes were constantly ringing. Therefore, Ren Fu ordered the people to open the mud box, and hundreds of pigeons suddenly flew out of the box. This is a replica of the Battle of Maling, in which Pang Juan died under this tree.
The pigeons are the signal. The main force of the Western Xia, which had been waiting for a long time, suddenly came out. Surrounded by trumpets, the party members poured water from the valley highlands. The Song army array was unfinished and unprepared. One of the most tragic massacres was staged in the Good Water River.
Ren Fu was hit by more than ten arrows and changed his warhorse three times in a row, but he still could not save the fate of the Song army being slaughtered. In the ambushed battle, "dozens of people died in the military academy and more than 6,000 people died in the soldiers."
After Ren Fu was killed in battle, the Western Xia army immediately attacked the song dynasty's follow-up troops. At Yaojiachuan (the mouth of the Shizi Road River), the Western Xia army surrounded Zhu Guan and Wu Yingbu and continued to massacre.
More than a thousand remnants of Zhu Guan's troops retreated to the people's walls, "shooting in all directions", persisting until dark, and retreating to the Western Xia. Added up, the Song army killed 10,300 people.
After this battle, the Song army Huanqing Road and Qinfeng Road came to support. But the war was over, and Li Yuanhao withdrew. Xia Chun was deposed; Han Qi was demoted to Right Counselor and Zhiqin Prefecture; fan Zhong was demoted to Household Commandery Wailang and Zhiyao Prefecture. Three people of the time, along with Song Renzong, a benchmark emperor, operated a tragic massacre. Whose fault is this?
Of course, the responsibility for the defeat can be pushed to the dead Ren Fu. However, the various interruptions between the Great Song Temple and the top level of the Song Army are more important reasons.
The outstanding monarchs watched as Li Yuanhao took the initiative from the battlefield. The Battle of Haoshuichuan was fought entirely according to Li Yuanhao's design. And what about the song army's planning? Take the initiative and fail to act; when you stick to the situation, there is no plan. The three major border marshals had heavy troops in their hands, but they could only wait for Li Yuanhao to lay out how to fight this battle.
What the Song army lost was not only the lives of tens of thousands of soldiers, but also the morale of the Shaanxi Theater.
Han Gongsun returned, to the half-tu, the father of the deceased, brother and wife of thousands of people on the horse's head, holding the old clothes and paper money to summon the soul and crying: Ru Used to go out from the requisition, and now the requisition returns, and Ru dies. Ru's soul consciousness can also return from the solicitation! The sound of mourning shook the world, and Han Gong covered his weeps and could not enter.
