Zhang Ailing's "Little Reunion" belongs to the third category of autobiographical genres like Qian Zhongshu's "Siege of the City", and in "Siege of the City", we can only imagine fang Hong's shadow of Qian Zhongshu. But "Little Reunion" is clear, Zhang Ailing said when she wrote that this is her own business, but the writer's autobiography does not mean that it is written in the writer's private affairs.
How many things in "Little Reunion" belong to Jiuli and how many things belong to the writer Zhang Ailing herself, which is intentionally confused, and this confusion has literary significance.
Taiwanese professor Huang Jinshu summed up "Little Reunion" in one sentence, saying that this love story "demonstrates why the heroine fell in love with someone she obviously shouldn't love at all costs", which raises three questions:
Why is this man a man who clearly shouldn't be loved, and where is this "obviously"? Second, why should the heroine love such a man at all costs? Third, what exactly is Zhang Ailing's so-called "love"?
In fact, falling in love with a man who obviously should not be loved seems to be the consistent theme of Zhang Ailing's novels, so "Little Reunion" is a case, and it is a bunch of mixed problems.
The subtext behind saying that a man obviously shouldn't be loved is that we know what kind of man should obviously be loved. This obviously has to be discussed back to literature. The best way to do this is to look at the most famous romance novels since May Fourth, and for what reason the male protagonists are loved by the heroines.
I looked for romance novels written by about a dozen of the most important writers since May Fourth, and analyzed why the hero should be loved. Including Lu Xun, Mao Dun, Ba Jin, Lao She, Yu Dafu, Shen Congwen, Qian Zhongshu, Ding Ling, Zhang Ailing nine novelists, plus dramatist Cao Yu.
First, the male protagonists are mostly talented intellectuals. During that period, the hero of a novel rarely speculated in stocks or swept the floor. Only two of the ten male protagonists are not intellectuals, one is Shen Congwen's "Border City" in the second guy, the other is Camel Xiangzi, but in general, the male protagonists of the ten novel love stories are more cultured than the female protagonists.
Second, where there is culture, there is political tendency, and culture cannot be completely devoid of tendencies. Most of these protagonists have progressive political stances, and according to today's parlance, they are more left-wing and pursue the new culture of May Fourth.
The third is the eternal factor, that is, the economy. Originally, the May Fourth novel did not attach as much importance to economic factors as today's novels or life, but the May Fourth novels did not necessarily have money, and without money, it must not be successful. In "Wounded Death", there is no money, and the good-looking Zijun and Juansheng finally broke up. Money is sometimes a chasm, such as "Home" bian Juehui and Mingfeng, a young master and a handmaiden, so how unsuccessful.
Fourth, the class line between men and women in The Diary of Madame Shafi was later transformed into a gap of intellectual interest. In "Shoko the Camel", the richer woman than the man is also an obstacle. Money can also be the foundation, obviously "Falling in Love" to find a long-term meal ticket, and the cryptic is "Spring Breeze Drunken Night". The most delicate is "Border City", the male protagonist was originally a rich second generation, but when he considered the key to marriage, the economic gap seemed to be a misunderstanding of shallow creek, but in fact it was still a chasm. In a word, the economy plays a positive or negative role in all romance novels.
Fifth, it is the degree of specificity of feelings. To tell the truth, before Zhang Ailing's novel appeared, everyone did not mention it, because it is self-evident. The hero of the novel is the male protagonist of love, and he is of course very dedicated to girls.
The five basic conditions, the first culture, the second politics, the third economy, the fourth body, and the fifth specialty. We now put The hero of "Little Reunion" Shao Zhiyong into this structuralist form and find that he has three strengths, first, he has talent; second, he once brought a box of money; third, his eyebrows are very handsome. Two weaknesses, one is suspected of being a traitor; the other is that the feelings are not single-minded.
It can be said that the heroine of "Little Reunion" has a protracted love war with him, and the turning point in the middle is a marriage book, before defeating two women, and then being defeated by two other women, before and after the heroine a total of five women fight with this hero.
The process of communication between men and women together, the novel is divided into three stages. The first stage is impulsive happiness, and at this turning point the heroine already feels that the alleged marriage of the male protagonist is something else, so she jumps into the stream of consciousness of a New York abortion. The second stage is to entangle and tolerate, Shao Zhiyong fled, and after getting married, he went from Wuhan to Wenzhou to Shanghai, and finally broke up. The third stage is the anger showdown, Wenzhou's thousand miles to find a husband, all the way to the end of the novel.
What is The Standard of Love of Jiuli? Jiuli's love standards are actually very similar to Zhang Ailing's: First, she doesn't like people like her. Second, she had always been suspicious of beautiful men. The third and most important thing is that she feels that aimless love is real.
These are the three love conditions of the heroine, here is the love standard of the fictional character Jiu Li, although it is very close to Zhang Ailing's love principle. One of the breakthroughs in autobiographical literature in "Little Reunion" is that the relationship between the third person and the protagonist and the writer is confused.
Zhang Ailing's novel has confused the perspective of the narrator and the character, and now the character is intentionally confused with the writer himself, and Zhang Ailing has repeatedly written the story of "Little Reunion" in Both Chinese and English, the details, dialogue, and expression can be said to be familiar with the heart, Zhang Ailing is very jumpy when writing, and does not consider the reader, so it increases the difficulty and charm of the defamiliarization of the work.
