People often use the phrase "a penny is difficult to defeat a hero" to describe a situation where a big person is cornered by a small matter.
In the revolutionary ranks of our Party, Liu Bojian showed us what is meant by "a penny is difficult to defeat a hero." What is the matter?
In early 1926, in the midst of warlord melee, Feng Yuxiang was attacked by a joint attack by the Feng army and the Zhi army, and was eventually forced to dismiss him. Next, Feng Yuxiang accepted the suggestion of Li Dazhao and others and went to the Soviet Union to study, and he arrived in Moscow around May.
At that time, Liu Bojian happened to be staying in Moscow, and both the Communist International and the CPC Central Committee wanted to absorb Feng Yuxiang, a patriotic general, into the revolutionary ranks of our Party.
Feng Yuxiang was originally very interested in the political work of the Soviet army and had always planned to learn from the advanced experience of others, and with the help of Liu Bojian, Feng Yuxiang easily realized his wish to learn from the Soviet army. As the two deepened their relationship, Liu Bojian left a very good impression on Feng Yuxiang.

Just as Feng Yuxiang was preparing to return to China, he formally extended an invitation to Liu Bojian, who invited Liu Bojian to return to China with him and then serve as the deputy director of the political department of the National Coalition Army.
Liu Bojian accepted this invitation, returned to the embrace of the motherland, and officially entered Feng Yuxiang's national coalition army, and subsequently, Liu Bojian and many upper-level figures in the army at that time established good united front relations.
In addition, Liu Bojian often used scientific revolutionary ideas to educate the soldiers in the army, and he silently transformed this unit that had split from the ranks of warlords directly under the Beiyang government.
In fact, these things are the tasks entrusted to Liu Bojian by our party, and the CPC Central Committee very much wants to win over Feng Yuxiang, a famous general, and Liu Bojian thought that if he did ideological work for the soldiers in advance, then if Feng Yuxiang had the intention of defecting to our party, the fighters at the bottom would also support Feng Yuxiang, so that they could join the ranks of the Red Army together, and the influence of this matter would certainly be very great, and this would be very beneficial to our party's revolutionary cause.
During the time when Liu Bojian was busy transforming Feng Yuxiang's Nationalist Coalition Army, he met his own love. It is in this love that Liu Bojian encountered the embarrassing situation of "a penny is difficult to defeat the hero".

Wang Shuzhen is not only a student graduated from Xi'an Women's Normal School, but also a very famous talented woman in Xi'an City, by chance, Liu Bojian and Wang Shuzhen met, and after coming and going, the two of them gradually deepened their understanding of each other, and soon developed a deep friendship beyond ordinary revolutionary comrades.
At that time, the love between Liu Bojian and Wang Shuzhen was envied and supported by many people around, and for a long time, the love between the two was rumored to be a good story.
Around April 1927, Deng Baoshan, who was the deputy commander-in-chief of the Northwest Army, and his wife personally arranged the marriage for Liu Bojian and Wang Shuzhen, which was held in a very grand manner and caused a sensation in most of Xi'an City.
At this wedding, General Feng Yuxiang personally took the stage to congratulate the two newlyweds, and some other figures with heads and faces in Xi'an City also attended the wedding. After the wedding, Wang Shuzhen officially assumed the post of secretary of the Political Department of the Northwest Army, and then, under the introduction of Liu Bojian, Wang Shuzhen gloriously joined the Communist Party of China.
Soon after, Feng Yuxiang betrayed the Communist Party and came together with Chiang Kai-shek. At that time, Liu Bojian's reputation in the ranks of the Northwest Army was already very high, and although Chiang Kai-shek was behind him, Feng Yuxiang still did not dare to kill Liu Bojian.

After careful consideration, Feng Yuxiang gave Liu Bojian 400 pieces of ocean, and then asked his secretary to escort Liu Bojian away from the Northwest Army, all the way to Wuhan.
Soon after, Liu Bojian and his wife met Zhou Enlai in Hankou, and after the three of them met, Zhou Enlai warmly praised Liu Bojian's outstanding performance in the ranks of the Northwest Army, and the heroic deeds of Liu Bojian in protecting more than 200 comrades of our party were repeatedly mentioned by Zhou Enlai. Subsequently, Liu Bojian officially served as the director of the Organization Department of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee.
After the Eighty-Seventh Congress, in accordance with the orders assigned by the party organization, Liu Bojian came to Shanghai, which was deeply shrouded by the bloody wind of counter-revolution.
Liu Bojian, who was in Shanghai, worked very hard, and he successfully rescued a large number of Communists arrested by the Kuomintang reactionaries through his special relationship with the Kuomintang elite Deng Baoshan, Yu Youren, and others on many occasions.
In order to escape the heavy checkpoints of the Kuomintang reactionaries and arrive safely in Shanghai, Liu Bojian and his wife dressed up as businessmen, Liu Bojian wore a top hat and glasses, and wrapped a thin white scarf, looking like a businessman. Wang Shuzhen was already pregnant at the time, and for a pregnant woman, who would suspect that she was a member of the Communist Party? In this way, they came to Shanghai safely.

The two also carried with them a box, which they regarded as more precious than their own lives, and contained some funds for the activities of our party.
Along the way, they were starved and frozen, and suffered all kinds of hardships, but Liu Bojian and Wang Shuzhen never moved the idea of opening the box. The funds for the Party's activities are public, and the distinction between public and private is the basic quality of an excellent Communist Party member, and they know this very well.
Liu Bojian silently endured various difficulties and tried to create slightly better conditions for his pregnant wife. Liu Bojian was fully prepared mentally, as long as he could protect his wife, he could eat any kind of hardship, just at this time, an unexpected thing happened, his wife Wang Shuzhen's stomach moved, and their child was about to be born.
In early 1928, Wang Shuzhen's belly was already bulging round, and it seemed obvious that a child could be born at any time. Liu Bojian spent a lot of effort and looked for help everywhere before sending Wang Shuzhen to the hospital near his residence.
Seeing his wife finally lying on the hospital bed, Liu Bojian's heart calmed down slightly, and he stood in the corridor of the hospital gasping for breath, and the beads of sweat rolled down his forehead one by one. Suddenly, a staff member in a white coat ran over and shouted at Liu Bojian: "Pregnant women are now lying on the hospital bed, what are you doing standing here in a daze, hurry up and pay the deposit!" ”
Pictured| doctors from the old times
Liu Bojian, as if he didn't hear the other person's voice, stayed where he was and didn't move, and the staff member continued: "Hey, comrade, you can't stand here, hurry up and pay the deposit!" Liu Bojian finally reacted, he said: "Comrade, I just saw that she was about to give birth, I just wanted to send her to the hospital, too hurried, no money, can you do the operation first?" I'll make up the deposit and other fees after that! ”
As soon as he heard that Liu Bojian had no money to pay the deposit, the staff's face immediately changed. In this way, Wang Shuzhen, who had a big belly, was blasted out by the hospital staff.
At this moment, it is really "a penny is difficult to defeat the hero", watching the wife with a bulging belly lying on the ground, the child may be born at any time, Liu Bojian thought of the party's activity funds in the box, he thought: Now is the key moment to save people, it belongs to special circumstances, first borrow the party's activities through the cost, and then it will be repaid in the future. Just when Liu Bojian opened the box to withdraw the money, he began to scold himself fiercely, and he said to himself:
"That's the party's activity funds, it's public funds, individuals have no right to embezzle, under no circumstances, they have suffered so many crimes along the way to Shanghai, the box has never been opened, and now they can't survive?" Is the party's revolutionary cause important, or is your soon-to-be-born child important? ”
Liu Bojian was forced to a desperate situation, he saw his wife's painful expression, saw the fine beads of sweat oozing from his wife's forehead, and listened to the screams of his wife, Liu Bojian's heart was like a knife.

After his pregnant wife was knocked out of the hospital bed, how did Liu Bojian choose? Is the Party's revolutionary cause important, or is the child about to be born important? Did he finally answer this question, what touching stories have happened to Liu Bojian? Please read on.
Referring to the Ningdu Uprising that broke out in December 1931, people often mention the names of Dong Zhentang, Zhao Bosheng and Ji Zhentong, because they were the direct leaders of this uprising. Regarding this Ningdu uprising that caused a huge sensation at home and abroad, people often forget the credit of one person, who is the protagonist of our article - Liu Bojian.
In this Ningdu uprising, Liu Bojian was a well-deserved "behind-the-scenes hero".
In 1929, in the Central Plains War, the "anti-Chiang Kai-shek coalition army" suffered a crushing defeat, and Feng Yuxiang was forced to go to the wilderness. Subsequently, Sun Lianzhong and more than 30,000 soldiers of Feng Yuxiang's Northwest Army defected to Chiang Kai-shek, and soon after, Chiang Kai-shek reorganized these 30,000 people into the 26th Route Army, with Sun Lianzhong as the commander-in-chief.
These fighters had just suffered a crushing defeat in the Battle of the Central Plains, had had enough of the sufferings caused by the war, and after defecting to Chiang Kai-shek, the soldiers wanted to take a break, and at this time, a new combat mission was sent. At the beginning of 1931, before the 26th Route Army, which had just completed its reorganization, had time to rest, it was sent by Chiang Kai-shek to Jiangxi to "encircle and suppress" the Red Army.
Pictured| Chiang Kai-shek in film and television works
Chiang Kai-shek was a very sinister person, although he reorganized the 26th Route Army, he refused to give the 26th Route Army a fair treatment, so the 26th Route Army has always been discriminated against by other units under Chiang Kai-shek, and everyone regards the 26th Route Army as a miscellaneous army, and very much despises these 30,000 people.
With regard to the 26th Route Army's "encirclement and suppression" of the Red Army, this in itself is a ruse of "killing two birds with one stone" planned by Chiang Kai-shek. What Chiang Kai-shek thought was that since these 30,000 or so people could so easily turn to themselves, if there was any change in the war situation in the future, these people would easily turn to others.
Chiang Kai-shek believes that such a contingent is very untrustworthy, and since it is not credible, it is a good thing for Chiang Kai-shek to send them now to "encircle and suppress" the Red Army, whether they defeat the Red Army or be defeated by the Red Army.
When the 30,000 soldiers of the Red Army "encircled and suppressed" them went south, some of them had already seen through Chiang Kai-shek's ruse, and they were very dissatisfied with it. Dong Zhentang, the most famous member of the team, even expressed his anger by cutting off the railway tracks heading south.
People often say that "there are birds in the forest," and this was also the case in the 26th Route Army at that time, including Dong Zhentang, who was resolutely opposed to the "encirclement and suppression" of the Red Army, and Gao Shuxun, who was anxious to lead the troops to advance toward the Soviet zone and wanted to make meritorious contributions in the action of "encircling and suppressing" the Red Army.
Pictured | Gao Shuxun
Gao Shuxun was too confident, and he rushed to attack the Soviet zone without understanding the combat habits of the Red Army, and as a result, the flexible tactics of the Red Army soldiers not only opened Gao Shuxun's eyes, but also caught them off guard. In the first battle between the two sides, Gao Shuxun suffered heavy casualties on his side, and the soldiers were beaten by the Red Army troops, which was very embarrassing.
In the operation of "encircling and suppressing" the Red Army, the 26th Route Army was very passive, which made Chiang Kai-shek very dissatisfied. What Chiang Kai-shek thought was: Since you are not willing to fight the Red Army, well, I will directly destroy you.
In this way, after the failure of the third "encirclement and suppression" of the Kuomintang reactionaries, Chiang Kai-shek deliberately issued such an order to the 26th Route Army, chiang kai-shek said: "I am now sending your 26th Route Army to garrison Ningdu, and then you must continue to fight with the Red Army troops, and you will not be able to leave Ningdu unless the Red Army is destroyed." ”
Not long after the 26th Route Army received this order, Chiang Kai-shek sent Zhu Shaoliang to lead the troops stationed in the Guangchang area, completely blocking the way for the 26th Route Army to retreat north.
Then, the 26th Route Army was sandwiched in The city of Ningdu, and the situation of this "miscellaneous army" was very bad, and they did not dare to retreat, because Zhu Shaoliang's heavy Kuomintang troops were not vegetarians, nor did they dare to really fight the Red Army, and they were already afraid of the Red Army.

Most of the fighters in this force were from the north, and they were very uncomfortable with the humid climate in the south, and the longer they stayed in Ningdu, the plague began to spread among the warriors. Every day a few people would die of illness, and worse, a dozen warriors would be taken away by the plague and sick.
The corpses of warriors were buried everywhere on the outskirts of Ningdu, and the scene was very tragic, and sometimes in order to prevent the spread of the plague, some warriors who had not completely lost their breath would be buried directly.
In such a situation, the soldiers are depressed and pitiful one by one, and everyone does not even know whether they can survive to the next day, who has the heart to fight the Red Army?
What annoyed the soldiers even more was that Sun Lianzhong, who was the commander-in-chief of this unit, did not care at all about the lives of the soldiers. Sun Lianzhong embezzled a lot of medical expenses, and the money for the soldiers' treatment was not enough, so he bought fake medicines, and under the destruction of the fake drugs, the soldiers died more than before.
The warriors looked at Sun Lianzhong's series of bad behaviors in their eyes, but they dared to be angry and did not dare to speak out, and after a long time, everyone began to call Sun Lianzhong "Sun Meat Head" in private. Due to the spread of the plague, many of the warriors in the team were tortured to the point of losing weight several times, and only Sun Lianzhong raised himself to be fat and strong, just like the Eight Precepts of the Pig in "Journey to the West".

After the outbreak of the September 18 Incident, the criminal Japanese invaders began to trample on the three northeastern provinces in a frenzied manner, and in the face of the Japanese invasion, the soldiers of the 26th Route Army in Ningdu could not sit still, and everyone shouted in unison: "We want to go back to the north, we will not fight the Red Army, we will fight the Japanese!" ”
Just as Dong Zhentang was leading a part of the soldiers and preparing to go north, Zhu Shaoliang's troops stood up to stop them. The two sides began a fierce battle, and the 26th Route Army was not an opponent of Zhu Shaoliang's troops, and was eventually forced to return to Ningdu.
The Japanese invaders have all hit the doorstep, and Chiang Kai-shek is still adhering to the strategy of "taking the outside world before going inside," and if he does not unite forces to resist Japan together, he will not even care, and he will have to beat his own people behind closed doors. Just when the soldiers were holding a grudge against Chiang Kai-shek, the Communists lurking inside the 26th Route Army began to act.
At the same time, Zhao Bosheng, Dong Zhentang and other generals were also seeking a way out for this unit, and if they did not find a correct way out for everyone, this army would be completely wiped out by the plague.
As early as during the Northern Expedition, when Zhao Bosheng, Dong Zhentang and others had met Liu Bojian and sought a way out, the first thing these two people thought of was to look for Liu Bojian, lead the troops to hold an armed uprising, and then defect to the Red Army. With the unremitting efforts of the Communists, the two men finally got in touch with Liu Bojian.

Subsequently, Liu Bojian has been the organizer behind the uprising, and everyone is secretly studying the relevant matters of the uprising and carrying out a series of preparatory work.
Finally, the time had come for an uprising.
In accordance with the orders of the Party Central Committee, Liu Bojian, Wang Jiaxiang, Zuo Quan, and others came to the area near Ningdu with a radio, and then they contacted the 26th Route Army in the name of the Central Revolutionary Military Commission and were responsible for directing the uprising.
On the evening of December 14, a gunshot in Ningdu City broke through the silent night sky. Soon, Zhao Bosheng, Dong Zhentang and other generals eliminated a few officers who opposed the uprising and did the ideological work of some hesitant fighters. Finally, they led more than 17,000 soldiers of the 26th Route Army to the Red Army.
As the soldiers headed toward the Soviet zone, they reached out and took off the Kuomintang hat badge they were wearing, and along the way, the Nationalist blue sky and white sun flag was thrown everywhere, and many of them were trampled into the mud pit. One by one, the soldiers were elated, and everyone said in unison: "We want to follow the Communist Party, we want to be the Red Army!" Subsequently, this unit was reorganized into the Fifth Army of the First Front of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army, and Liu Bojian served as the director of the political department of this unit.

Do friends remember? When Liu Bojian was in Moscow, Feng Yuxiang invited him to serve as the deputy director of the political department of the National Coalition Army, and after entering the army, in order to help our party win this unit, Liu Bojian has been working very hard to do the ideological work of the soldiers.
So much time has passed, and the revolutionary situation on the land of China has undergone many changes, and just when this unit officially joined the revolutionary ranks of our Party, Liu Bojian came again to serve as the director of the political department of these fighters.
In early March 1935, when Liu Bojian was directing the Red Army soldiers to break through, one leg was shot by the enemy, and after being wounded, Liu Bojian was very calm, he knelt on the ground, raised his gun and continued to shoot at the enemy. After the bullets ran out, Liu Bojian was captured by the enemy.
Subsequently, Liu Bojian was imprisoned in Dayu Prison. During this time in prison, the Kuomintang reactionaries tried every means to persuade Liu Bojian to surrender, and there were more than a dozen people with heads and faces on the enemy's side, and finally Liu Bojian refused.
Liu Bojian has always been loyal to our Party and wants such an iron-clad revolutionary fighter to bow to them; the enemy is really too stupid, it is simply a fool's dream.
After being repeatedly rejected by Liu Bojian, the enemy finally moved to kill, and before the execution, the enemy asked Liu Bojian if he had any aftermath to account for, and Liu Bojian calmly said:
"Yes! I want to write a letter to my family, and I want to instruct my children and grandchildren to continue along the road I have not completed and carry out the revolutionary cause to the end! I will be buried in Meiguan after I die, and I will stand there and watch the fire of the revolution burn all over the land of China again! ”
On March 21, Liu Bojian was taken out of prison by the enemy and escorted to Jinlian Mountain near dayu County, where gunshots rang out and Liu Bojian was brutally killed by the enemy.
In this way, Liu Bojian, an outstanding Communist, fell, and he shed his last drop of blood for the revolutionary cause of our Party.
Finally, let's return to the topic at the beginning of the article, for Liu Bojian, is the party's revolutionary cause important, or is the child about to be born important? In order not to let his pregnant wife be tortured, did Liu Bojian embezzle the party's activity funds?
Picture | the former residence of Liu Bojian
The answer is no. At that time, the situation was indeed very critical, in order not to embarrass Liu Bojian, Uncle Wang Zhenming was already in pain and couldn't help it, but he still suppressed his voice again and again, she clenched her lips with her teeth, and her lips were bitten and bleeding.
In a critical situation, Liu Bojian finally thought of a way, he quickly ran to the hospital's blood drawing room, after 400 ml of blood was drawn, Wang Shuzhen could finally lie safely on the bed.
In this way, Liu Bojian would rather sell blood than embezzle the party's public funds, and public things cannot be touched; this is the basic principle of being a communist party member, and he keeps it in mind all the time.
Soon after, the cry of a baby came from the ward, and this cry broke through the silence around it like thunder. Liu Bojian ran to the ward happily, and the doctor leaned out and said, "Congratulations, mother and child are safe!" ”
When he heard these words, Liu Bojian's face burst into a bright smile, and the birth of his son took away all his troubles, and then Liu Bojian couldn't wait to run into the ward and reunite with his wife and son.

Sometimes we can't help but ask, what is a Communist Party member?
Perhaps the martyr Liu Bojian can give his answer: to remain loyal to the party all his life and to shed his last drop of blood for the cause of the revolution, this is the communist party.
