The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the China Meteorological Administration jointly issued an early warning of dry and hot wind disasters in winter wheat

On May 14, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the China Meteorological Administration jointly issued a disaster risk warning for winter wheat dry and hot winds.

Affected by high temperature and sunny weather, it is expected that from May 17 to 19, the risk of dry and hot wind for winter wheat in central and southern Hebei, central and western Shandong, central and northern Henan, northwest Anhui, southern Shanxi, and Guanzhong in Shaanxi will be higher (yellow warning), and the risk will be high in parts of southern Hebei, northwestern Shanxi, northern Henan, and southeastern Shanxi (orange warning). It is suggested that the above-mentioned areas should take measures such as "one spray and three preventions", micro sprinkler irrigation or small water fine watering to prevent and reduce the hazards of dry and hot air. At the same time, do a good job in the monitoring, early warning and unified prevention and control of aphids at the ear stage.

Dry and hot wind risk warning map of winter wheat from May 17 to 19

Hot dry wind, also known as "fire wind", "hot wind" and "dry wind", is an agrometeorological disaster in the late stage of wheat growth and development. Hot and dry winds mainly occur in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, Jinnan, Guanzhong Basin and Xinjiang, with a large area and high frequency. In addition, it may also occur in late spring and early summer in North China, Northwest China, and the Huanghuai region. Dry and hot winds often occur in late spring and early summer when there is little rain and high temperature, and this time is also the key moment for wheat heading, flowering and grain filling in North China, Northwest China and Huanghuai region. If the temperature rises sharply at this time, the humidity drops rapidly, and there is a certain amount of wind, it is easy to cause the wheat field to transpire too fast, the wheat root system is short of water and insufficient filling, and the wheat has a large area of grain failure, or even death.

It is reported that on May 11, the National Meteorological Center organized a special meeting on the prediction of the impact of dry and hot winds in the northern winter wheat area, which was attended by the meteorological bureaus of Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Anhui, Shanxi and other provinces, as well as agricultural and rural departments. In the next step, the China Meteorological Administration will continue to strengthen the real-time monitoring of the development trend of dry and hot wind in wheat, do a good job in weather forecasting services in key areas, and cooperate with agricultural and rural departments to do a good job in information reminders and early warning releases.
